Estimation of Active Pressure PA from sloping ground (Very Conservative Approach)

Pa (Bottom) = Ka* r* H = 1*18*3 = 57 kPa

Pa (Top) = Ka* r *H = 1*18*(3-2.4) = 10.8 kPa

DESIGN BRIEF & CONCLUSION

 Soil Pressure is being applied at the side facing against the slope (57 kPa at bottom & 10.8
kPa at top) uniformly decreasing for bottom to top.

 Solely 150mm this of concrete and single layer of Steel Fabric has been used for design check
conservatively. Contribution of inner precast chamber is neglected for simplification purpose.

 It can be concluded that the proposed 150mm thick concrete grade 25 concrete surround with
B.S.A393 steel fabric is satisfactory for the above calculated soil pressure.

 Lateral deflection at the top of the system found to be as 0.292 mm and is less than allowable
deflection Span/180 = 2770/120 = 13.33 mm

 Hence, the proposed system is safe against the earth pressure from sloping ground.
