Project Concept

I amLocation Recce
creating a factual programme for BBC Three, in the documentary, I will be
discussing the biological processes that scientists theorise causes homosexuality. I will
open the documentary with a brief history of homosexuality. be exploring both sides
of the debate, both negative and positive.

Who I am commissioning my work for?

For my final major project I thought a good company to commission my

production for would be BBC Three, they are a long standing broadcast
company that have curated thousands of factual programmes that have been
successful and educating. BBC Three is the branch of the BBC that is targeted for
younger audiences, they create their productions with the idea of tackling issues
of today head on. They create documentaries that are important or relevant to
young people today and I believe my idea conveys with their modus operandi.
My idea is targeted towards younger people as more young people than ever
are identifying as queer, so my idea is also relevant to them and it would be a
production they would enjoy watching. Being queer for a majority of queer
people hasn't been the easiest, a majority of British gay people have
experienced an anti-lgbt event, whether it be verbal attacks or physical. So my
documentary would provoke a lot of powerful emotions for my production as I
will be challenging people who hold anti-lgbt views and talking people who are
Lgbt themselves and their experiences

The Henley College- Drama studio
Lighting Information: There aren’t
windows or any natural lighting so my
footage maybe dark. The overhead
lighting might be too harsh on my
interviewee.
Sound Information: The room is well
spaced with a high ceiling, there may
be potential for echo but the walls have
curtains draped all round them.
Power Information: I am using quite
simple filming set up, I will be filmed by
a camera person while I interview and
provide narrative and information. I will
use a stage light with a diffuser to bring
a uniform soft lighting for the interview
Hazards: There are a few hazards
present when filming in a drama studio,
the room is quite dark and has loads of
expensive equipment.

Solutions: Plenty of stage lights to use for
the lighting of my interview, I can also
change the lighting settings on my
camera to best suit the environment.
Solutions: when I go to the location to
film before I start I will do a sound check
to make sure the audio sounds good. I
will use a good microphone form the
college and bring headphones to
check the sound.
Solutions: To make sure my camera
doesn’t die while filming I will make sure
to charge both batteries the night
before. For the lighting, the equipment
is light and not too heavy so I will be
able to set it up quickly.

Lighting Information: I want a simple
lighting set up that isn’t complicated or
difficult to replicate. There are over
head studio lights and fluorescent lights
that I can use.
Solutions: I will use one box light to shine
on my face and then there are lights
that face the wall that I will use to make
the flag behind me shine brighter

Sound Information: Solutions:

The room is prone to running sounds I will place the camera close to me and
especially if you are using an inbuilt speak clearly and softy as not to ruin
microphone which I am using. the sound.

Power Information Solutions:

There are wall sockets that I can use for I plan to charge my two batteries for my
lighting equipment and for charging my camera the night beforehand so I have
camera the most time to film.

Hazards Solutions:
I am using studio lights that are on the I will have to be extra cautious when
