 Mercer’s and Rubin’s Theory in relation to parenting

 Behavior and needs of expectant mothers
 Mother and s father’s role in caring for a child

Deliverable: Make a reflection paper of your own parents’ parenting style in your family.

There are four major recognized parenting styles: authoritative, neglectful,

permissive, and authoritarian. Each one carries different characteristics and brings about
different reactions in the children which they are used on. It is important to keep in mind that
every parent child relationship is different, so there is not one sure fire way to go about
parenting. With the categories above, I can say that my parents’ parenting for us is more on
Authoritative Parenting, Authoritative parenting is widely regarded as the most effective and
beneficial parenting style for normal children. Authoritative parents are easy to recognize, as
they are marked by the high expectations that they have of their children, but temper these
expectations with understanding a support for their children as well. This type of parenting
creates the healthiest environment for a growing child, and helps to foster a productive
relationship between parent and child. This kind of parenting for me I think is the most suitable
parenting for all children because this parenting does not only ensure proper communication
with your family but also ensure that there is a strong bond between you and your family. We
never miss a meal without being together and not talking about what happened on a certain
day. I am thankful that my parents raised me with this kind of parenting and for me I know that
this kind of parenting style can be applicable to my future sons and daughters.

 Situational crisis affecting parental assumption of their role

 Effects of a Childless Marriage
 Laws protecting Children against abuse

Deliverable: Make a reflection paper about Child Abuse and make recommendations on how to
stop it

Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act,
causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of
child maltreatment, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation and emotional
abuse. With child abuse common in our society today we have this question in mind on how to
stop child abuse. In this deliverable I am going to state several ways on how to stop Child
Abuse. First, learn the facts and understand the risks. Realities - not trust - should influence
your decisions regarding your child. As a parent we must understand our children, must
constantly give support to them and we must always monitor our children. Volunteer your time
and get involved with other parents in your community. Help vulnerable children and their
families because simple things can always help. Discipline your children thoughtfully. Never
discipline your child when you are upset. Give yourself time to calm down remember that
discipline is a way to teach your child. Use privileges to encourage good behavior and time-outs
to help your child regain control. As a parent we must examine our behavior. Abuse is not just
physical. Both words and actions can inflict deep, lasting wounds. Be a nurturing parent. Use
your actions to show children and other adults that conflicts can be settled without hitting or
yelling. Next, educate yourself and others. Simple support for children and parents can be the
best way to prevent child abuse. After-school activities, parent education classes, mentoring
programs, and respite care are some of the many ways to keep children safe from harm. Be a
voice in support of these efforts in your community. Teach children their rights. When children
are taught they are special and have the right to be safe, they are less likely to think abuse is
their fault, and more likely to report an offender. Support prevention programs. Too often,
intervention occurs only after abuse is reported. And I think this would help stop Child abuse
among children.

 Normal developmental task from infant to school age child

 Common behavioral problems from infant to school age child

Deliverable: Research for studies about childhood behavioral problems from 2000 to present.
Identify the top three problems and make a reflection paper about it. Cite your source

Through the years it has been common for children to break the rules and go against the
norm to ‘test’ authority. Only that way do they understand what behavior is appropriate and what
is not. Read on to learn about the behaviors that kids tend to exhibit from time to time and how
you can handle a child with behavior problems. According to my research, this are the top 3
problems that most children are experiencing right now. First is lying, It is common for children
to lie. It is also common for parents to worry when they catch the kids lying. You may feel
betrayed, hurt and even wonder if you can trust the child again. But here is what you should do
to prevent your kid from lying. But how can we solve this? It is common for children to lie. It is
also common for parents to worry when they catch the kids lying. You may feel betrayed, hurt
and even wonder if you can trust the child again. But here is what you should do to prevent your
kid from lying. As a parent we should not take it personally. Think about it from your child’s
perspective to understand what compelled him to lie, kids may lie when they are scared that the
truth might have negative consequences. Appreciate the positives rather than punishing
negative behavior to prevent your child’s need for lying. Second is Bullying, Bullying is a serious
problem and could result in emotional and physical abuse of the victim. Children tend to bully
others to feel powerful. Also, bullying resolves their social problems easily. But what can a
parent do to prevent this? As a parent, we should start teaching your kids from an early age that
bullying is wrong. More importantly, explain to them what or who a bully is and give them
examples of what bullies do. For example, you can say, “A bully is someone who calls people
names, or does mean things to them, or takes their property by force. And lastly is Laziness.
Motivating kids is not easy, especially if they are lazy and tend to find an excuse for not doing
anything. When your son or daughter is unmotivated, here is how you can help. As a parent,
you can tell them the stories about your childhood and share your experiences to inspire and
encourage them to try something new. Do not force your child to take up a hobby. Give them
options and let them choose. Kids are more interested in something that they choose.

 History of spiritual care in nursing

 Nature and characteristics of spirituality
 Spiritual need and psychosocial need

Deliverable: Make a reflection paper on how to give spiritual care to a patient with a terminal
condition.

Dying is a profound transition for the individual. As healthcare providers, we become

skilled in nursing and medical science, but the care of the dying person encompasses much
more. Certain aspects of this care are taking on more importance for patients, families, and
healthcare providers. Patients with terminal illness are provided with comprehensive physical,
psychological, social, and spiritual care for terminally ill patients. Most hospice programs serve
terminally ill patients from the comforts and relaxed surroundings of their own home, although
there are some located in inpatient settings. The goal of hospice care team is to help the patient
achieve as full life as possible, with minimal pain, discomfort, and restriction. It also emphasizes
a coordinated team effort to help the patient and family members overcome the severe anxiety,
fear, and depression that occur with terminal illness. To that end, hospice staffs encourage
family members to help and participate in patient care, thereby providing the patient with warmth
and security and helping the family caregivers begin the grieving process even before the
patient dies. To give spiritual care on a patient with terminal condition, the nursing team should
invite a priest (Catholics) to give the anointing of the sick and with that, we can give a spiritual
care to the patient. If capable the patient can be also read with Bible or Qur’an to fully
understand the meaning of life.

 Nursing Theories and its Application in the care of the Human Spirit
 Basic Ethical Principles

Deliverable: Choose one nursing theory and apply it in giving spiritual care for a patient in your
clinical area.

The nursing theory that I chose is by Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Theory. According to
her, people should be self-reliant and responsible for their own care and others in their family
needing care and also people are distinct individuals, so they need to take care of their own self.
Nursing is a form of action – interaction between two or more persons. Successfully meeting
universal and development self-care requisites is an important component of primary care
prevention and ill health. A person’s knowledge of potential health problems is necessary for
promoting self-care behaviors. Self-care and dependent care are behaviors learned within a
socio-cultural context. How can we apply this theory in spiritual care with patients? With this
theory present, we can encourage patients to have a time for themselves, to be more spiritually
attached to God by merely praying. This nursing is also applicable to the clinical area, because
this days we have to be practical, there are times that we have anyone to take care of us that is
why we need to make sure that we can take care of ourselves. I think this answers the question
above.

As a lots of people getting older, and in reality, those people that has disease or elderly or

accident, that resulted to disabilities, and some other various reason, and some are inborn
disabilities, and they need someone to be there for them to give care for them, whether a family

well-being of the patient, no matter what kind of patient is, the most important is to give a good
