DriveTools SP 5.02.99 RN
DriveTools SP 5.02.99 RN
DriveTools SP is a family of software tools designed for Microsoft® Windows 2000 / XP / Vista
operating systems. These applications provide a Simplified Programming interface for programming,
troubleshooting, and maintaining your Allen-Bradley AC and DC drive products. Easy to use menus,
dialogs, wizards, and graphic displays help you quickly start up your Allen-Bradley drive product.
Powerful diagnostic features simplify diagnosing drive as well as system problems.
DriveTools SP goes beyond the successes of DriveTools32 by offering more user conveniences such
as user files that automatically embed necessary database files, single-communication set up, and
more built-in intelligence. DriveTools SP uses RSLinx Lite for communications.
New features:
• DriveTools SP v5.02 supports the new PowerFlex 753 drive, which uses the new Rev. 4 of the
DeviceLogix library.
• DriveTools SP v5.01 supported the launch of the PowerFlex 755 drive which contained the
Rev. 3 DeviceLogix library. The PowerFlex 755 drive will be updated to the Rev. 4
DeviceLogix library for its next major release.
• Added new PowerFlex 755 Profiling and Homing Wizards, and PowerFlex 753 Startup
Wizard.
• Added Fault and Alarm Help for PowerFlex 750-Series drives modules.
• When the parameter editor dialog was opened for indirect parameters in peripheral devices, the
access level always defaulted to “basic”, which limited the number of available connection
options. This has been fixed to be the correct access level setting.
• The PowerFlex DC, PowerFlex 70EC, PowerFlex 700VC, and PowerFlex 755 diagrams were
updated with corrections.

Known issues:

Release Notes Page 3 of 7
• DriveExecutive and DriveTools 5.01 are incompatible with earlier versions of each other. The
workaround is to either have only one of DriveExecutive or DriveTools 5.01 installed without
a previous version of the other, or to upgrade both to 5.01.
• DriveTools and DriveExecutive 5.01 require the Drives Add on Profiles for RSLogix to be
version 2.01 or greater, and vise-versa. Please upgrade the Drives Add On Profile to 2.01
(included on the CD) after installing DriveTools or DriveExecutive.
• Installing DriveExecutive Lite over a full version will cause DriveExecutive to be Lite.
• When connected to a 1336 PLUS II Drive, via Device Net or Ethernet, loading defaults from
NVS doesn't default all values. Parameters: 266, 205, 69, and others don't change to their
default values.
• Online bar will not update for 40P via USB unless control bar is opened.
• For most Wireless (Bluetooth) adapters: When the online connection is broken between
DriveExecutive and the drive, the software goes into a Not Communicating mode and
reestablishes connection when the link is available again; however, for Bluetooth links, the
drive remains “Not Communicating”. The workaround is to terminate DriveExecutive,
RSLinx, the RADriveCommServer.exe and RADrvDBMgr.exe services using “Task
Manager”, and start all over again. It occurs both when the WIM end of the link is broken and
when the USB adapter link of the end is broken.
• Since DriveTools SP uses RSLinx Classic communication layers, any limitations of RSLinx
Classic on Windows Vista is applicable in DriveTools SP.
• If Users encounters intermittent communication lost indication, uses the Regedit tool form
Windows to change the following register keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rockwell
Automation\RADrvDBMgr\DataAcquisition\CommLossUpdateRate from 1000 to 3000.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rockwell
Automation\RADrvDBMgr\DataAcquisition\DeviceStatusUpdateRate from 500 to 1000.
• Added support for alarm dialog for 1397 DC with firmware 2.xx and later.
• Issues with Conversion among offline of different versions of any specific drive because of the
format of Product Codes List string.

• Drivelogix dialogue motion comm. format used in the AOP incorrectly set parameter 110.
• Added PowerFlex 4, 4M, 40, 40P, and 400 Startup wizards, and DataLogger wizard.
• RGU Links Download - When using DriveExecutive to download parameters to the RGU, the
parameter links would not download. This forced customers to use the HIM or DriveExecutive
to enter the links manually. This was resolved by adding a checkbox to the General page of the
Device Properties dialog to allow the user to change the download order. The default setting
for the RGU is to download the parameters followed by the links. The default for all other
devices is to download the links followed by the parameters. This allows the download to
occur with no additional intervention by the user.
• Fix error when connecting to the SCANport drives using 1203-USB communication modules.
• Fix error when downloading offline file to the 1395 DC drives using serial communication
modules.
• Fix error when upload online drive with corrupt data from PowerFlex® 700S phase 2 drives.
• Fix intermittent online indicator switching between online and offline for PowerFlex® 700S
phase 2 with Embedded Ethernet Card for DriveLogix drives.

• Updated Diagram views for PowerFlex® 70EC drives, PowerFlex 700 VC drives, and
PowerFlex 700S drives.
• Control bar - A toolbar similar to DriveExecutive for controlling a drive (Start, Stop, etc.).
• Folder Upload / Download - Provides a quick mechanism for uploading and downloading to a
group of drives. Every DriveTools *.dno file contained in a selected Windows folder can be
uploaded and/or downloaded together, one immediately following the other. This saves you the
time of individually opening each *.dno file and performing the upload or download. "Upload
Folder..." and "Download Folder..." are new selections under File in the menu bar.
Revision 4.01 features available in both DriveExecutive and DriveExecutive Lite (Lite ships with
select versions of RSLogix 5000) include:
• Wizards - Simplify many different tasks on a device such as Startup, configuration of Step
Logic, and Technical Support diagnostics. A new Wizard icon is placed on the tool bar for
launching the wizard browser to select a desired wizard.
• Write-Protect Awareness - Indicates with a Lock or Unlock symbol if the device’s DPI port to
which the software is connected, is configured for Read/Write (unlocked) or Read only
(locked).
• Previous DriveTools releases will attempt to write to a port and will receive an error message if
it is read-only. V4.01 (and higher) will not allow an attempt to be made to a read-only port and
will annunciate that security has been enabled for that port.
• Diagnostic Device Item display has also been added to DriveExecutive Lite and is now
available in both software versions of DriveExecutive.
• Diagram views with diagrams for PowerFlex 700 Vector drives, PowerFlex 700S drives, 1395
Digital DC drives, 1336 FORCE drives, and 2364F RGU active bus supplies (full version only)

• Added toolbar button to launch DriveObserver when installed on PC (full version only)
• Opening device properties dialog causes the latest device text to be read from the device. This
allows the software to pick up device text edits committed by another client (HIM, software,
etc.)
• Correction to allow opening PowerFlex 70/700 files saved via SCANport while the drive is
running
• Correction to allow the database path to be set to the root directory (i.e. C:\) and to
accommodate network paths that do not have mapped drives (i.e. such network paths typically
begin with \\)
• Correction to allow copying of the DriveLogix Comm Format for PowerFlex 700S drives when
using the Change Configuration utility.
• Ability to view drive status information (running, faulted, at speed, not communicating) for
every trace in a chart
• Ability to add parameters to a chart that are not being trended (like a gain) so that you can
easily make edits while trending data

• Ability to save chart data to a *.csv file for use with Microsoft Excel and other third party
software
