Volunteer Rewards Program Policy Document

Purpose

This document has been prepared by the General Committee in order to promote and regulate a
culture within the Club of volunteering to run, manage and support yachting events by members and
non members alike.

Basic Volunteer Requirements

 All volunteers are required to be familiar with the specific organisational requirements of
the event they are supporting and shall be accountable to the Principle Race Officer and
ultimately the Rear Commodore.
 All volunteers shall be fully acquainted with the specific requirements of the Notice of Race
and Sailing Instructions for each event and shall ensure that the event is managed in line
with the guidelines of World Sailing.
 All volunteers are expected to uphold the traditions and standards of the Royal Natal Yacht
Club and shall display professional, sportsmanlike and gentlemanly behaviour at all times
treating fellow volunteers, RNYC staff and competitors with the respect and dignity expected
at a Royal Club.
 All volunteers shall treat the safety of themselves, fellow volunteers, RNYC staff and
competitors as the number one priority. All vessels and property of the Club shall be treated
with respect as if it was owned by the volunteers themselves, any loss or damage shall be
immediately reported in writing to the Club General Manager.
 All volunteers shall volunteer their time and talent without the expectation of reward and
accept full responsibility for their actions and the implications these may have on fellow
volunteers, RNYC staff, competitors and the reputation of the Club. The Club accepts no
liability for any loss or injury as the result of any act of omission, negligence or poor
judgement on the part of any volunteer.
 All volunteers shall at all times perform their assigned duties to the very best of their ability
and shall ensure that the event is of a high standard and fair to all competitors.
 By accepting any Volunteer Loyalty benefits volunteers automatically accept the terms and
conditions set out in this Policy Document and any subsequent amendments.

Volunteer Rewards Program

Non member volunteers will be issued with a RNYC branded Volunteer Loyalty Program Card.

Members shall receive their Volunteer Loyalty Program benefits loaded directly on their club
membership card.

All Volunteer Loyalty Program benefits may only be exchanged for purchases made at Member’s
prices in the Clubhouse, there is no expiry date for the redemption of loyalty benefits and benefits
may be accumulated.

Volunteers shall receive a credit to their Volunteer Loyalty Program account for each successfully
completed duty once authorised in writing by the OC Rescue as follows:

Offshore Race Support R 150


Bay Race Support R 100
Ladies Sailing Coach R 100

No credit shall be granted for any events cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather of
insufficient competitor attendance.

Race support volunteers shall receive the following provisions on board the race management
vessels while on the water:

Duty Description Onboard Provisions per Volunteer

Bay Race Support 1 x 500ml Water


Offshore Race Support 1 x Sandwich or Roll, 2 x 500ml Water, 1 x Soft
Drink
Ladies Sailing Coach 1 x 500ml Water

Additional provisions may be ordered for the volunteer’s account, the consumption of alcohol while
onboard is strictly forbidden.

This Policy Document is issued for immediate implementation in terms of the General Committee
Resolutions dated 13th August 2018 and 12th September 2018.

This Policy Document may be amended from time to time at the sole discretion of the General
Committee.
