Method Statement for Metallic Pipe Work Pneumatic Pressure Testing TKN-MST-CST-CS5-025
Revision: P4-C Status: IFR Date: 26.04.2017 Page 5 of 12
1. SCOPE
This method statement describes the general requirements for field pneumatic tests of pipelines for CS5 &
MS2 Pipeline.
2. REFERENCES
4. REPONSIBILITIES
During pipeline pneumatic test for strength, protected area should be set and marked inside and outside
of the building. Minimal distance in any direction from the pipeline should be arranged as per HSE
requirements of Project. When pressure is increased in the pipeline and achieved the testing pressure,
presence of people in the protected area is prohibited.
Pipelines can be inspected only after the test pressure is reduced to operating pressure.
Persons performing tests and inspection should be specially instructed. Presence of other persons in the
protected area is prohibited.
If any leaks are discovered in tested pipelines, the pressure value should be reduced to the atmosphere
pressure, only after ensuring the pressure absence, tightness can be eliminated.
Testing place should be barricaded; warning signs should be installed at paces where occurrence of
strangers is possible.
During testing it is prohibited to eliminate defects, to tighten pipeline flange couplings under pressure.
During testing it is prohibited to hammer or knock the pipeline walls.
Only process personnel with knowledge of unit process diagram can be admitted to testing the piping for
leakage.

Head of the unit should directly supervise all works concerning piping leakage test, or a shift supervisor
either chief operator can substitute him on his assignment.

Manifold
Hose
Hand Tools
Test Blinds
Safety Valve
Pressure Gauges
Test Recorder
7. TEST PACKAGE
The Test Pack shall contain the following documents / drawings when submits to Contractor for review:
Test Pack Cover Sheet
P & ID (marked up)
Isometrics with joint weld numbers (weldmap) and marked up line in red
Line-list (marked)
Calibration Certificates for Gauges.
Summary lists of line weld joints & NDE (ensure all welding, repairs and NDE completed and reported)
Punch List
Pneumatic Test Form
Internal cleaning report
8. TEST MEDIUM
The gas used as a test medium shall be non-flammable and non-toxic. Compressed air /inert gas will be used
for pneumatic test.
9. TEST PRESSURE
Test pressure shall be not less than the test pressure mentioned on the ISO Drawings and Line Lists.
10. MANOMETER
Manometers that will be used during pneumatic activities shall have dials graduated over a range of 1.5
times the maximum test pressure and no greater than twice the maximum intended pressure. Manometers shall
be choosen in accordance with procedure for pressure testing TKN-PCD-QAC-GEN-062.

Test Circuit and limits shall be highlighted on Isometrics and P&ID. Blinding work shall be completed prior
to pressurizing the system and installed temporary spades/blind flanges shall be listed in the test package. After
the test circuit is prepared the whole test circuit will be punched by Subcontractor/Contractor
A calibrated pressure gauge will be on the test manifold and at least one pressure gauge will be installed in
the piping system to be tested. The calibration certificates shall be attached to the pressure test folder.
Preliminary pneumatic test will be conducted at 1.7 bar to detect major leaking of the pipe system.
Compressed air or inert gas (argon or nitrogen) shall be used.
The pressure in the system shall gradually be increased to not more than half of the test pressure, after
which the pressure shall be increased in steps until the required test pressure has been reached.
Maintain the test pressure for a minimum 5 minutes.
Reduce the test pressure to maximum operating pressure.
Conduct the examination by soap bubble or equivalent method of piping system for leak detect.
12.1. Retest
If there are found any leakage during the pressure test, the piping system shall be retested to the specified
pressure after repairs have been made. Any lines changed after they have been tested shall be retested.
In the event that repairs or additions are made following the pressure test, the affected piping shall be
retested at the pressures originally specified for the test. Retesting of minor repairs or additions may be
waived subject to Contractor/Client approval.
After completion of testing, all temporary arrangements and blinds shall be removed; all operating blinds
returned to proper position and all lines and piping components shall be completely drained. Valves,
orifice plates, expansion joints and short pieces of piping which have been removed, shall be reinstalled
with proper gaskets in place.
Instruments which were removed or blocked out for test shall be reinstalled and blocks placed in the
normal operating position after test as per pre-commissioning team reqirements and scope of
Subcontractor responsibilities.
