WEEKLY JOURNALS

This is where you think about your FMP learning journey and development.
Don’t simply describe what you did - consider what you have learnt and how this has benefitted
your project. What do you need to improve?

THIS IS JUST GUIDANCE THAT YOU NEED TO ADAPT TO YOUR OWN PROJECT. YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR
OWN PRODUCTION SCHEDULES AND YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS SHOULD REFELCT THAT.

THESE QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN THE WEEKS YOU COMPLETED THEM. DO NOT JUST SUBMIT THIS
FORM FILLED IN FOR YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS. THERE SHOULD BE 11 WEEKLY BLOG ENTRIES (INCLUDING
EASTER).

Week Seven – Filming

PLANNING

What did you learn from your planning This week I made final touches to my pre-production work but
this week? for the most part, I was focusing on making sure that I was
completely ready to film. I re-familiarised myself with the story of
Reading Racers and the details of my interviewee. I also looked
at some more videos on how to set up interviews effectively
and making sure that I knew how to use all the equipment.

What issues did you encounter and I didn’t encounter any issues this week.
how did you overcome them?

How did you ensure that you are I feel that I have completed all of my pre-production work to a
prepared for filming? detailed standard. I believe that my content research is strong
and I know about the history and potential future of the topic
of my documentary. I also think that by watching and
analysing videos about interview set up and how to film objects
moving at high speed, that I feel confident in filming and
interviewing for when I am required to.

How did you ensure that your I heavily thought about what kind of footage and what shots I
equipment lists were completed to a wanted to include in my final piece. One of the main appeals
high standard? of Speedway is the fact that it is raw and no-frills attached.
Therefore I want to reflect that by using a shoulder mounted
camera so that the footage is a bit shaky and grainy. I want to
use a chest mounted GoPro so that I could use it to add a
sense of intimacy and the idea that I am a providing a behind
the scenes view for the audience. I also want a 2 camera set
up for my interview to prevent the viewer from getting bored.
For this interview, I want to use a tripod because the camera
needs to stay still and focused.

How well have you been able to I was able to secure locations relatively easily because I was in
organise locations and transport? contact with The Reading Racers manager Gene Carter
relatively early on in the process. Subsequently, I was in contact
with Sam early on in the process. This meant that we arranged
to meet at Mildenhall, and then Swindon a week later a while
beforehand. This made it easier to secure transport. My dad
was willing to drive me to both locations so I could concentrate
on planning and preparing to film a lot faster than expected.

Are you on track for the week? If not, I am on track for all of my work this week
how far behind are you?

What work do you need to complete N/A

outside of lessons to stay on track?
