Change Input voltage for

ALM Module on 840D sl

1. Firstly, check the incoming voltage measured by the Drive system. This is a live reading.

a) Select SETUP and enter Siemens password.

b) Select DRIVE SYSTEM

c) Select SUPPLY

d) Select INFEED PARAMETER

continued on next page……………

IMPORTANT: To ensure you are on the
correct module, make sure that ALM
is seen at the top right of the window.

e) Value r25[0] shows voltage

at input terminals (live reading)
(note: you can also see the actual DC Link
voltage in r26)

f) Scroll down (or perform a search)

for p210 – Drive unit line supply
voltage. This value will show what the
manufacturer set the voltage to
during commissioning.

If these 2 values are not within a few volts of each other* then the settings will need to be changed.

*(For example, in the screenshots seen here, Parameter p210 was originally 430v and the measured voltage at r25[0] was 415v, but was changed
before the screenshots were taken)
2. Measure the incoming supply voltage with a multi-meter to check it is the same as the live reading from step 1 (r25[0]).
They may differ slightly due to the calibration of the multi-meter, test lead resistance, and the way the drive measures the
voltage. However they should be within a couple of volts of each other.

If you see that the physically measured voltage, and the voltage in r25[0] are the same as each other, but largely different
from parameter p210, then p210 will need to be changed using STEP 3 below.

3. To change parameter p210 set-point voltage;

a) Select MENU SELECT, then SETUP and enter Siemens password (if needed)
b) Home machine, and press machine off (red button on the HMI)
c) Press in the E-STOP on the HMI (only possible to modify with infeeds disabled)
d) Select DRIVE SYSTEM
e) Select SUPPLY
f) Again, ensure ALM is seen in the top right hand corner
of the window
g) On the right hand side of the screen, select POWER DATA
h) Tick the box at the top left of the screen
(Line/DC link identification on first power ON)
i) Type in the new voltage that was obtained from
the physical test and/or parameter r25[0]
j) Press ACCEPT, then YES on the pop-up that follows
There will be a few pop-ups that should disappear.

4. In order to make the ALM module accept the change and recalibrate it must now be shut down as follows:

a) Press MENU SELECT

b) Press right arrow key >
c) Press EXIT
d) Wait for screen to go black
e) Turn off E1
f) Wait 2 minutes
g) Turn E1 back on
h) Wait for HMI to boot up
i) Press POWER ON
j) With the power on and cabinet doors open you should hear the ALM module whirring for approx. 30 seconds which
tells you the auto-tune is occurring.

You will see in the alarm history that the ALM module has been calibrated. You can also go to the infeed parameters
screen (from step 1) to check that the voltage value in p210 has changed to what was entered in step 3, and that the value
in r26 – DC Link voltage should have changed following the tuning to the correct voltage.

The machine should now be ok to run.
