APPLE AND ITS SUPPLIERS: CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY

Apple Inc. the California based multinational technology company known

for its innovative products and softwares. Apple was accused of having
allowed labor rights violation in China at Foxconn that was its supplier in
2009. Apple worked hard to resolve this issue and maintain its position.
In 2014, A BBC documentary showed that the rights violation has been
continued by Apple at Pegatron that was the supplier of Apple’s iPhone.

After facing a collapse in 1997, co-founder Steve Jobs was convinced to

return to revive the company and he was successful in doing this by
launching iPods and iPad. However its greatest success came from its
debut in smartphone market. In 2014, Apple revenue rise to nearly
$183billion. Apple customers are extremely loyal to the Apple products
and services.

Apple and its suppliers operated in different cultures. A different buyers

and sellers relationship has to be maintained by them. Apple has been
the leading target for campaigners on the working conditions but it
seems unfair to single out one manufacture for the alleged sins of an
industry. Apple was notorious for its price policy, squeezing suppliers to
produce products at lower and lower costs.

90% of Iphone’s part was manufacture overseas. Apple was criticized for
choosing China as a center of manufacturing and loses of domestic job
opportunities in the US. Offshore cut sourcing significantly reduced
Apples operating costs and the level of control & monitoring over
manufacturing process.
