Ethical issues and dilemmas

Define each of the following terms and provide an example that illustrates your understanding
of the meaning:

Conflict of interest: A situation in which a party's responsibility to a


second-party limits its ability to discharge its responsibility to a third-
party.

Alice was found to have a conflict of interest and forbidden to act as


judge in her favorite uncle's trial.

Corporate accountability: The act of being accountable to


the stakeholders of an organization, which may
include shareholders, employees, suppliers, customers, the local
community

Jack’s sportswear, start taking corporate accountability of dealers and compasses


throughout the day.

Corporate culture: The values and behaviors that contribute to the unique
social and psychological environment of an organization.

If you want your employees to be motivated and happy you should try to
get the best possible corporate culture at your workplace.

Fraud: Act or course of deception, an intentional concealment, omission,


or perversion of truth, to gain unlawful or unfair advantage.

I immediately called my bank to report fraud after I noticed purchases on


my credit card statement that I did not make.
Kickback: Portion of an income demanded as a bribe by an official for
facilitating the job or order from which the income is realized.

When you bid on a job and job is awarded to you and you have to pay someone $1000
because your received the award, this $1000 payment is an example of a kickback.

Transparency: See-through, clear piece of acetate used for


projecting data, diagrams, and text onto a screen with
an overhead projector.

Due to oversight, we have been ordered to take the doors off the hinges. It
give the impression of transparency, it gives a chance for the workers to
see us.

Whistle-blower: can be employees, suppliers, contractors, clients or any individual


who somehow becomes aware of illegal activities taking place in a business either
through witnessing the behavior or being told about it.

The company’s whistleblower is hoping to get another chance to search for


government waste
