Definition of Statistic, Populations and Samples

Word of Statistic based from word staat (in German, its mean is state) or statista (in
Italian, its mean is statesman). In the period of roman, statistic is descriptions of quantitative
which needed by state including taxation, mobilizations, etc.

Statistics are a numerical measure that characterizes some aspect of population or

group of values known as random variables.they are random variables because the outcomes
of any single measurement, trial, or experiment involving them cannot be known ahead of
time.

According to scientist, definition of statistic is variation. One of them, according to

Anderson, statistics are the science and art of development an application of the most
effective methods of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative data in such a manner
that the fallibility of conclusion and estimate may be by means of inductive reasoning based
on the mathematics of probability.

Populations are group of all of elements or the unit of observation from problems
which studied. In some case the populations are finite, for example the students in the
classroom or the citizen of a country. And the populations are infinite because it is impossible
to measure every possible value. For example, an oceanographer who wants to determine the
salt content of sea water using an electronic probe is faced with in an infinite population
because there are an infinite number of places where he or she could place the probe. While
samples are group of part of populations which used for explain characteristic of populations.
