Objectives:
To asses students’ knowledge of the subject and to motivate them towards conceptual
knowledge and practical application of the subject.

Question 1:
Do you think that the Objectives Resolution (1949) provided a mechanism for the
constitutional developments in Pakistan? Justify your answer with five valid points.
Yes, I think Objectives Resolution (1949) provided a mechanism for the constitutional
developments in Pakistan.

1. Sovereignty belongs to Allah alone, who would delegate it to the state of Pakistan through
its people for being exercised within the limits as a sacred Trust.

2. The principle of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance and social justice as enunciated
by Islam, shall be fully observed

3. The state shall exercise its power and authority through the choose representatives of the
people.

4. This Constitutional assembly represented the people of Pakistan resolves to frame a


constitutional for the sovereign independent state of Pakistan

5. The state shall excersice its power and authority through the chosen representative of the
people.

6. Fundamental right shall be guaranteed.

7. The principle of the democracy,freedom,equality,tolerance and social justice will be fully


observed.

Briefly describe the major steps taken by Ayub Khan after coming in power.
1. In 1958 Ayub Khan had promised a speedy return to constitutional government. In
February 1960, an eleven-member constitutional commission was established. The
commission's recommendations for direct elections, strong legislative and judicial
organs, free political parties, and defined limitations on presidential authority went
against Ayub Khan's philosophy of government, so he ordered other committees to make
revisions.
2. in 1960,he signed the historic fronteir agreement with China country despite the US
urging and was a significant event in the history of the Cold war where a non-communist
country had entered in alliance with communist country.
3. About the 1965 war contingency plans, AM Nur Khan breify wrote that Rumours about
an impendig operation were rife but the army had not shared plans to other forces
4. In 1965,he survived a failed assassination attempt while visiting Dacca and was visibly
shaken after this attempt,according to the close aides through this was not reported in the
press of the day.
5. Extensive education reforms were supposedly carried out and scientific development
efforts’ also made during his years.These supposed policies could not be sustained after
1965 and economy collapse and led to the economic declines which he was unable to
control.
