BONDERITE M-MN 117
known as BONDERITE MN 117 MU
MANGANESE PHOSPHATE CONVERSION COATING, NICKEL FREE
March 2013
Properties
and Application Fields: BONDERITE® M-MN 117 (KNOWN AS:BONDERITE MN 117 MU) is
formulated to produce a non-metallic, corrosion resistant
coating on iron and steel surfaces. BONDERITE® M-MN 117
(KNOWN AS:BONDERITE MN 117 MU) produces an oil-absorptive
coating, which permits rapid break-in of moving parts
without scuffing by preventing metal-to-metal contact
between the bearing surfaces. It increases lubrication of
treated surfaces due to the oil-absorptive coating on
articles such as pistons, rings, liners, camshafts, tappets,
motor blocks and similar bearing surfaces.

2: Water rinsing
3: Surface conditioning
4: Phosphating with BONDERITE® M-MN 117 (KNOWN AS:BONDERITE
MN 117 MU)
5: Water rinsing
6: Drying (not required if a soluble oil is to be applied)
7: Oil finishin(optional)
Equipment: Process tanks and housings may be fabricated from 300 series
alloy stainless steel, such as 304L or 316L. The 316L being
preferred for maximum tank life. Process pumps should be
constructed of 316 or 304 stainless steel alloys. In all
case approved welding techniques must be used.
Chemical feed pump parts and other elastomers which may come
into contact with the concentrated BONDERITE® M-MN 117
(KNOWN AS:BONDERITE MN 117 MU) solution should be EPDM,
Hypalon, Viton or Teflon.
Rinsing:
The rinsing bath must be continuosly fed with fresh water at
a rate which will keep it clean and free from scum and
contamination.
Surface conditioning:
To obtain a homogenous and fine grained manganese phosphate
coating, the use of a conditioning agent is required
(Fixodine range).
Bath control: The BONDERITE® M-MN 117 (KNOWN AS:BONDERITE MN 117 MU)
system can be controlled by determination of the “Total
Acid” points, the ”Free Acid” points, the Acid Ratio as well
as the iron(II) content.
1. Determination of the”Total Acid” points:
- Pipet a 2 ml sample of the cooled bath solution into a 150
ml beaker.
- Dilute with approx. 50 ml of distilled water.
- Titrate with a 0.1 N NaOH solution till pH 8.5.
- The consumed ml of the 0.1 N NaOH sol., multiplied by a
factor of 5 correspond to the “Total Acid” points.
Bath replenishment:
For 1.000 l of phosphating solution the following amount is
added for each missing “Total Acid” point:
Precautionary information: Full information on the hazards and safety handling of the
