Course Reflection

Though I was a good writer before, English 1010 has taught me many more valuable

writing skills. My primary strength had been short story writing before entering this course, but I

believe I now possess a new skill set: essay and summary writing, and, more specifically, writing

in a more advanced academic/collegiate style.

This course has taught me how to search for credible sources, compile and search for

connecting information those sources, properly cite the sources in MLA format, collect and

legibly organize the information presented, and overall write an essay that is easy to understand

and properly formatted. With these new skills, I will be prepared in college when the time to

write academic papers is presented.

With diligence comes experience; while this course was incredibly difficult, I can now

reap the fruits of my labor. Not only have I learned to more accurately and efficiently write

college essays, I will have also received an English credit for college which will help me get

through college a little easier. Diligence for experience: a perfectly balanced trade. English 1010

wasn’t unbearably hard but not nearly easy, and thus also taught me the value of a proper work

ethic.

The course material was well presented, beginning with summary writing and then

moving on to more difficult writing such as literature reviews. This system prepared me for later

works in the course as it taught me valuable skills before moving on to the writings that required

them.

Overall, English 1010 has been a very educational and well-built class that I believe has

adequately prepared me for college writing in the future. I would recommend this class to any

student who wishes to advance their writing skills to succeed in college.
