MP CM launches Rs 50,000 cr farm loan waiver scheme ‘Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana
On 15th January 2019, “Jai Kisan Rin Mukti Yojana” scheme was launched by Madhya Pradesh Chief
Minister Shri. Kamal Nath.It is Rs 50,000 crore farm loan waiver scheme for farmers. The loan
waiver forms could be submitted till February 5 and farmers would start getting the benefits from
February 22.
Key points
i. On 5th January 2019, the state cabinet decided to waive crop loans of 55 lakh small and marginal
farmers in the state.The eligibility cut-off date has been extended to December 12, 2018 from March
31, 2018.
ii. Only those farmers who have not registered themselves to pay GST and income tax can avail
benefits under this schemes.
iii. Earlier former Chief Minister Shri. Shivraj Singh Chouhan also launched similar scheme
named ‘Bhavantar Yojana’.

Madhya Pradesh launched employment scheme “Yuva Swabhiman Yojana” for urban youth
On January 26,2019, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath launched ‘Yuva Swabhiman
Yojana’ for youths of the weak section in urban areas of Madhya Pradesh
About the scheme:
i. The scheme was launched in Chhindwara,Madhya Pradesh
ii. It aims to provide employment to the youth belonging to the weaker section of the society mainly in
urban areas of the state.
iii. Under this scheme, 100 days of employment will be provided.
iv. Registration of interested urban poor youth under this scheme will start on February 10,2019.
v.Apart from this 100 days employment,they will also be given skill training by the government.

Madhya Pradesh government to create an Adhyatmik Vibhag(spiritual department)


On 29th December 2018, The Congress-led Madhya Pradesh Government announced that it is
going to create an Adhyatmik Vibhag (spiritual department) by merging several existing
department.
Key Points:
i. The Congress had promised to form such a department before the last month’s Assembly elections.
ii. The proposed Adhyatmik Vibhag (Spiritual Department) going to be formed by merging Dharmik
Nyas Evam Dharmasv Department (Religious Trust and Endowment Department), Anand
Vibhag (Happiness Department) in addition to the Directorate of Religious Trust and
Endowment, Madhya Pradesh Teerth Evam Mela Pradhikaran and Rajya Anand
Sansthan.Madhya Pradesh had become the first state in the country to create Happiness Department.

Purchase of new vehicles, ACs banned for government departments: Madhya Pradesh CM
Kamal Nath
On December 31, 2018, Chief Minister of the Congress led government of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal
Nath, banned the purchase of new vehicles and air conditioners (ACs) by the government
departments due to huge debt of the state.
i. Also, the expenditure incurred on office items has been limited on the basis of the difference
between the allocated budget for these expenses in the financial year 2018-19 and the expenditure
incurred in the financial year 2017-18.
ii. Although, hospitals, hostels, Anganwadis, shelter homes have been kept out of the purview of the
limitations.

Background:
According to a report of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) tabled in the Vidhan Sabha in

Madhya Pradesh Government launched 100-day employment scheme for youths


Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath launched the State Government’s flagship scheme ‘Mukhyamantri
Yuva Swabhiman Yojana’ that guarantees 100 days of employment every year to urban youth from
Economically Weaker Sections(EWS).
i. Under the scheme, Rs 4,000 stipend per month during 100 days of period, would be given to the youth and
they will also be given skill development training in order to become independent.
ii. Each youth enrolled under the scheme will get total Rs 13,500 for the 100 days period.
iii. Only those youths, whose family’s annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh and who are in the age group
of 21-30 years, are eligible for the scheme.
iv. 1.5 lakh urban youths have so far registered themselves for this scheme.

2 new NIDs inaugurated at Bhopal and Jorhat by Suresh Prabhu


National Institutes of Design (NID) at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and Jorhat in Assam were inaugurated by
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, through video
conference from New Delhi.
i. They are autonomous institutions and under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal
Trade (DPIIT),Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
ii. NID Jorhat (Assam) is the first Design Institution at the national level in the North Eastern Region of
India.
iii. The recommendation for setting up design institutes, on the lines of NID Ahmedabad, in other parts
of India, in order to promote design programs, was given by National Design Policy (2007).
iv. 4 new NIDs have been set up in Andhra Pradesh (Amaravati), Assam (Jorhat), Madhya Pradesh
(Bhopal) andHaryana (Kurukshetra) with a total outlay of Rs. 434 crore.
v. The project has been executed and implemented by NBCC (India) Ltd. (formerly known as National
Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd.).

Railways win Senior National Men’s Hockey Title by defeating Punjab


The Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB)won the 9th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship
2019 (A Div),defeating Punjab by 3-2 at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
i. RSPB’s Harsahib Singh scored two goals in the 35th and 45th minute while Dilpreet Singh scored in
the 57thminute. Punjab’s Rupinder Pal Singh scored in the 23rd minute and Ramandeep Singh scored
in 60th minute.

Proposal for setting up of Centre for Disability Sports at Gwalior was approved by Cabinet
Cabinet approved the proposal for setting up a Centre for Disability Sports at Gwalior in Madhya
Pradesh which will be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The estimated cost of setting up
the centre shall be of Rs.170.99cr for a period of 5 years.

Cabinet approves surrendering of AAI encroached land to MP government


Cabinet approved the proposal of Airport Authority of India (AAI) for surrendering encroached AAI’s
land measuring 106.76 acres at Bhopal Airport to Madhya Pradesh government. The state government
has in turn handed over 96.56 acres of land which is adjacent to existing land to Bhopal Airport and the
remaining will be made soon.

Shakuntala D. Gamlin laid foundation stone for NIMHR in Sehore, MP


The foundation stone for the ‘National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation’ (NIMHR), the first-of-its-
kind institute in India, was laid down by Shakuntala D. Gamlin, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of
Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at Sherpur
Village along Bhopal-Sehore highway, District Sehore, Madhya Pradesh.
i. The Central Government approved an outlay of Rs 180 crore for the project for an initial period
of threeyears.
The land for this institute measuring about 25 acres was allocated free of cost by the Government of Madhya
Pradesh in October 2018.
ii. The construction work of the building will be undertaken by Central Public Works Department (CPWD),
Bhopal and is expected to be completed within a period of two years.

New NCLT benches to be set up in Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh


The Government approved the establishment of two new benches of National Company Law Tribunal
(NCLT), at Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh and Indore in Madhya Pradesh in view of the increasing caseload,
especially under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code 2016. The creation of new benches will enable faster
disposal of cases.
i. The jurisdiction of the Bench at Amaravati will be the state of Andhra Pradesh and that of Indore will be
the state of Madhya Pradesh.
ii. Currently, Andhra Pradesh comes under the Jurisdiction of NCLT Bench at Hyderabad and Madhya
Pradesh comes under the jurisdiction of NCLT Bench, Ahmedabad.
iii. The NCLT, which has been set up under the Companies Act, 2013, has provided an effective and time-
bound adjudication mechanism to deal with matters related to the Companies Act, 2013, the Insolvency and
Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016 and theLLP Act, 2008.
iv. Presently, 14 numbers of NCLT Benches have been established, including the Principal Bench in New
Delhi, and three recently set up benches at Jaipur, Kochi and Cuttack.

Gondi Language to be included in primary education in MP’s tribal districts


Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath declared that Gondi language will be included in the primary
education curriculum of the state’s tribal-dominated districts, due to the rising concern of a rapid decline in
the number of people who speak that tongue.
i. The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, declared by the United Nations (UN), will be
observed in the state on 9th August 2019 to redress the problems of the tribal community and it will be a
State Government holiday.
About Gond Tribal Community
i. The Gondi or Gond people are Adivasi (indigenous people) of India listed as a Scheduled Tribe
ii. They are spread over the states of Madhya Pradesh, eastern Maharashtra (Vidarbha), Chhattisgarh, Uttar
Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha.

MP governor Anandiben Patel approved ordinance to hike OBC quota


On 10th March 2019, Madhya Pradesh governor, Anandiben Patel approved an Ordinance to increase

reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs).


Key Points
i. As per the ordinance the reservation of OBC will be increased to 27% from 14%. It made Madhya Pradesh
the only state in India to have 27% quota for OBCs.
ii. The government assured 10% reservation for economically weaker section in the general category will soon
get implemented.
iii. State Minister for Law and Legal Affairs P C Sharma has announced the ordinance. The ordinance got its
approval just before Lok Sabha election model code of conduct picks on.

Namdev Tyagi appointed as Chairman of river trust by the Madhya Pradesh government
On 12th March 2019, the Madhya Pradesh government has appointed Namdev Tyagi, a self-styled godman
who is also famous as Computer Baba, as chairman of ‘Ma Narmada, Ma Kshipra and Ma Mandakini Rivers
Trust’ in the Madhya Pradesh.
i. He was appointed by the State Spiritual Department.
ii. He would work to prevent illegal mining and for rejuvenation of rivers.

79th Indian History Congress held in Bhopal


The 79th Indian History Congress (IHC) was held at Barkatullah University in Bhopal, Madhya
Pradesh from 26 to 28 February 2019 and saw a presence of over 1,000 delegates including prominent
historians.
i. After 2011, this was the second time Madhya Pradesh hosted the event.
ii. IHC was initially set to be held at the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra but was
cancelled due to financial reasons by Karnataka govt.
About IHC
♦ Established in the 1935, IHC is the largest professional and academic body of Indian historians with over
10,000 members.
♦ The first meeting of the IHC in 1935 was held in Pune.

MHA (the Union Ministry of Home Affairs) gives approval for renaming ‘Durjanpur’ in MP as ‘Shivdham’
The Central Government has given its approval for the proposal of the Madhya Pradesh State Government, to
change the name of a village in Madhya Pradesh from ‘Durjanpur‘ to ‘Shivdham’. Durjanpur is situated
in Katni District of Madhya Pradesh.
The Home Ministry’s approval came after a no objection notice from the Geographical Survey of India (GSI), the
Department of Post, the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
