To whom it may concern:

My name is Maxine Napal and I’d like to major in Sociology when I go to college. I’m very
interested in that topic and would like to explore the diverse careers that are obtainable with a
Sociology degree. Throughout my challenging years of high school, I’ve never really been able
to figure out which subjects I was truly engrossed in, until I took AP Art History during my
junior year. From that class, I learned a lot about art around the world and its relation to history,
but what really vested my interest was what I learned about human interactions and the way
social interaction creates art. Going into my senior year, I decided I wanted to find out more
about why we are the way we are, so I took Psychology. From what I’ve learned so far, I’ve
found that a career in sociology will match my interests and personality. I’m really considering
minoring in Childhood development so that I could help kids have better lives.

The very first job I ever had was a Recreation Leader at a summer camp for the City of Newark.
I worked alongside a partner and it was my responsibility to oversee a group of about 20 kids
from ages 6-9. It was my responsibility to plan and coordinate activities while being a mentor to
the children. The camp allowed me to meet all kinds of kids, some came from wealthy families
while some received their only meal at camp. I was very interested in how the kids interacted and
how their lives at home affected their personalities. I would like to find out more about how I can
be beneficial to kids that are in need. I learned a lot about how your words and actions can make
a lasting impact on kids and I hope to continue to help kids later on in my future career.

In addition to my position as a rec leader, I also work at Rockin Jump, a trampoline park. There,
I spent a lot of time with kids and deal with parents. I have several positions there, one is
Trampoline monitor where I enforce rules and work the different areas there. Another position I
held was a party host. I handled kids’ parties and served food. Lastly, I worked front desk where
I used the register and counted out tils.

I appreciate the opportunity to share my plans for the future and I hope my application is taken
into consideration. Thank you for time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Maxine Napal
