NFL’s Problem

As many as 3.8 million sports- and recreation-related


concussions occur in the U.S. each year.

During 2001-2005, children and youth ages 5-18


years accounted for 2.4 million sports-related
emergency department (ED) visits annually.

What is a Concussion?
Head or the body that causes the brain to move rapidly inside the
skull. A concussion changes how the brain normally functions.
We need to raise awareness of concussion because
they happen to athletes of all ages and levels. Even
if you don’t play sports, any strenuous activity
carries a risk of concussion.

There are three major components of awareness:

● Understanding the prevalence of concussions


● Understand the symptoms
● Understanding treatment and prevention
Percentage of Concussions in the NFL

In 2017 there was a


HIGH percentage of
concussions. In
2018 it decreased
but not as much.
Symptoms of a Concussion

● The main symptom of a concussion are lack of balance, and the


usage of your helmet.
Lack of balance

● Lack of balance is when you can’t maintain to stay on your feet.


When you lose balance your body will shut down complete.

Follow these Procedures during Concussion
Protocol
1. Rest and Recovery
2. Light aerobic exercise
3. Continued aerobic exercise, introduction of strength training
4. Football-specific work
5. Full football activity, full clearance
Helmets

Helmets are designed to protect the players from serious injuries.


Helmets also can real injury you in the same process.
