“To His Excellency, General Washington”: ACE Paragraph

In the poem “To His Excellency, General Washington” by Phillis Wheatley use devices

like personification and allusion to show why Washington should be president. In lines 17 and

18, the writer use personification to compare “Astonish ocean” to a “wild uproar”, to describe

how out of control American is. In line 30, the author use allusion to describe the wars that

happen in America/Columbia. The “Gallic power Columbia” means gave America hope and

power. By using these devices like allusion and personification, will describe why Washington is

needed for America and fix it’s problems.
