Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track

of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn
more?

A topic I find most interesting is snowboarding. Ever since I was a little kid I had
always wondered at snowboarding and thought it was the coolest thing ever. This winter
I got a job at Massanutten Resort as a snowboard instructor. This job has been one of
my all time favorites. There's just something about snowboarding that draws me in .
Snowboarding to me is an escape and a time where I can forget everything and
just ride. Just the fact of having the wind and the snow hitting your face while you drop
in; it's the best feeling ever. One reason I like snowboarding is because of the board,
there are so many different types and different styles that no one has the same one on
the slope. Also the fact that you're strapped on to a board make me feel like I'm one
with the board and that were working as a team. It makes you feel like your just floating
down the hill. Also, I feel snowboarding makes a good stage for thinking.
Another reason snowboarding captivates me is because of the physical demand.
To be out there in very cold weather and to take falls on rock hard snow takes some
guts. But even knowing where to put pressure with your feet and when to do it so you
don't fall. It's sorta like a science or a puzzle that you have to solve. The conditions
aren't going to be the same every time you go snowboarding so that just relates to
another puzzle you have to figure out. And when you learn or land a new trick it brings
so much joy and happiness to you because you now know you can do that trick.
Whenever I want to learn more I normally just go out and ride and play around
and see if I can find something new or go try a new trick. I'll also ask one of my
co-workers or watch videos on how to do a certain trick or how to improve. Also, I attend
employee clinics, which is taught by one of the supervisors, which improve your skills
and helps you understand snowboarding.
Snowboarding is one of my favorite hobbies and something I do everytime Im
stressed or need to think. There's just something about it that I love and will continue to
do.
