CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 2: either the role holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as
part of their work; or they will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor,
legal executive); therefore, a police check will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in
other countries).

ROLE PURPOSE:
The purpose of this role is to support the fundraising strategy for the Guatemala Country Office, both
as a proposal writer and focus on designated international corporate donor engagement. As a proposal
writer, the person will join proposal development teams, including Country Office and other Save the
Children member colleagues, to write proposals according to the donor guidelines, based on factual
information that provides the reader with necessary details to make a decision about future financial
contributions. The role will support the team in delivering high quality proposals, for different types of
international donors (including US Government, Europaid, ECHO, AECID, among others). Excellent
research skills and the ability to write persuasively and articulately are essential. The main job duties
involve researching, organizing ideas and writing based on inputs received from Save the Children
technical advisors.

As a focal point for designated International Corporate Donor engagement, the role will work along
with the NBD and Award Manager and the Regional Corporate Donor Manager in developing and
building corporate fundraising capacity for the Guatemala office, by engaging with current and
prospective donors.

• Work along with the NBD and Award Manager and the designated Proposal Development
Team on writing high quality proposals that comply with donor requirements (RFA/RFP) to
ensure that final product exceeds the requirements of the donor.
• Based on proposal development team written assignments, the Specialist will develop one
proposal with “one voice” that speaks to the reader.
• Edits and copy writes documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, readability,
appropriate tone and consistency with SCI guidelines and standards. Also, formats documents
to meet donors’ guidelines and standards.
• Interview stakeholders to understand the critical win themes, unique value propositions,
organizational approaches and standards that must be highlighted throughout the entire
document.

• Work directly with the Technical Lead to gather information and success factors that can feed
into the proposal. Also work directly with thematic technical advisors to support in the
development of a technical narrative, detailed work plan, annexes and M&E plan, as well as
other sections compliant with the proposal requests.
• Conceptualizes graphics, tables and text boxes in order to emphasize strengths of the design
and content within the documents.
• If not responsible for writing the proposal, the Specialist will ensure readability, consistency and
appropriate tone in the document describing the Country office capabilities, management
approach and/or past performance.
• Analyse proposal content to ensure updated past performance materials as required.
• Additional duties may include conducting interviews, reviewing documents and proposals.
Maintaining up-to-date files to supplement proposal writing process (national and regional
context data, project descriptions, potential partners); manage proposal deadlines as stablished
for information gathering, writing, review and approval;
• Follow up on unsuccessful proposals to develop recommendations for improving success rate.

International Corporate Donor Fundraising:


• Maintain an up-to-date database of the County Office portfolio and promote it to those Members
with Corporates interested in funding the region.
• Develop and draft proposals to be financed by private sector or corporate donors.
• Keeping an updated file of written documents and institutional materials to present Save the
Children’s objectives to potential private sector and corporate allies.
• Coordinate with the Director of Strategic Alliances and Fundraising of Save the Children for LAC
to develop corporate fundraising objectives aligned with the strategic objectives of Save the
Children.

Portfolio management and strategy


• Assists in special tasks assigned by the New Business Development and Award Manager, linked
to the CO Strategic Plan and NBD goals.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Professional qualification in Business, International Development, Finance/Accounting or similar.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS


• Masters’ degree in International Development or Communications.
• High level proficiency and exceptional writing and editing skills in English. Ability to read and
write in Spanish.
• Experience writing proposals for US government bids and other European donors (e.g. USAID,
USDA, EUROPAID, ECHO, AECID, NORAD etc.)
• Experience working in a high-paced environment; and time management and organizational
skills.
• Experience editing professional and proposal documents. Strong organizational skills that
demonstrates a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently under strict deadline pressure and handle multiple work assignments;
• Some broader communications experience/knowledge beyond proposal writing is desired.
• Ability to learn quickly, demonstrate critical thinking and make situation appropriate decisions
using sound judgment.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
