Date and
Day 2
Time

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
a. how atoms combine with other atoms by transferring or by sharing
electrons.
b. forces that hold metals together.
B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to analyze the percentage composition of
different brands of two food products and decide on the products’
appropriate percentage composition
C. Learning Competencies Learning Competency
and Objectives  Explain the formation of ionic and covalent bonds (S9MT-IIa-
13).
Objectives:
 Explain how covalent bonding takes place.
 Illustrate the sharing of electrons.
 Show appreciation on the importance of sharing.

IV. PROCEDURE

A. ELICIT The students will be asked to give an example of unstable elements.

B. ENGAGE Task: Students from the class will be asked to pick a styroball that
corresponds to unstable elements.
Ask: How did you know that such elements were unstable? Now that
you know that these atoms are unstable, what do we need to do to
make them stable?

C. EXPLORE Task: The learners will be grouped into six learning teams. Group
leaders will be asked to get the materials from the teacher. Each
learning teams will perform the activity entitled “Share It”.(see
attached Activity Sheet)

D. EXPLAIN Task: A representative from each learning teams will show and
explain how they came up with their output. Each learning teams will
be given 2-3 minutes to present their answers on the given guide
questions.

After the group presentation, discuss and explain the answers for the
guide questions. Explain how covalent bonding takes place. Call
some students to illustrate on the board the bond formation of at
least two covalent compounds.
E. ELABORATE Ask: Do you think sharing of electrons between elements can also
be applied in our daily life? How?

F. EVALUATE Illustrate the sharing of electrons through Lewis Dot Symbol between
the given elements in order to form a covalent compound.
1. Oxygen and 2 Hydrogen
2. Chlorine and Chlorine
3. Hydrogen and Bromine
4. Sulfur and Oxygen
5. Carbon and 4 Chlorine

G. EXTEND Research on some common covalent compound and its uses.

V. REMARKS

VI. REFLECTION
1. No. of learners who earned
80% in the evaluation
2. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation who scored
below 80%
3. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners who
have caught up with the
lesson
4. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation
5. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well? Why
did these worked?
6. What difficulties did I
encounter which my principal
or supervisor can help me
solve?
7. What innovation or
localized materials did I Use
or discover which I wish to
share with other teachers?

Prepared by:
“Share It”

I. Objectives
1. Construct a model showing the sharing of electrons between unstable elements.
2. Explain how covalent bonding takes place.
3. Appreciate the importance of sharing in our daily life.

II. Materials
Clay – clay that will represent the electrons.
Fine Wire – serve as the outermost energy level.
Styroball Model – unstable elements
Toothpick – bonds between elements
Activity Sheet

III. Procedures
1. Choose a pair of unstable elements that are capable of forming a compound.
2. Attach the clay to the fine wire of each elements which will represent the number of
valence electron.
3. Using a toothpick connect the electrons of each elements that will undergo sharing.

IV. Guide Questions

1. What is represented by each styroball model?
2. How do you know that they are unstable?
3. What did you do to make the electrons complete?
4. As you connect the electrons using toothpick what has been formed?
5. What are covalent bonds?
6. Do you think such sharing of electrons between elements can also be applied in our
daily life? How?
