COPPER REMOVAL USING ION

EXCHANGE RESIN

Industrial wastewater such as non-ferrous smelting, electroplating,

chemical, printing and dyeing industries often contain copper. 
The use of ion exchange resin can effectively remove Cu2+ from
wastewater to achieve high purification, which is conducive to resource
regeneration and environmental protection.

The ion exchange resin is an organic polymer compound having a main

body lattice structure.
The number and type of reactive groups determine the total exchange
capacity and selectivity of the resin, and the exchange capacity is the
number of exchangeable ions in the resin.
It is an index indicating the exchange capacity of the resin. It can be
divided into: 
1. Full exchange capacity (meaning that all active groups in the
exchange resin regenerate the total amount of exchangeable ions) 
2. Working exchange capacity (refers to the resin in the exchange
process, the actual The total amount of exchangeable ions that act as
an exchange). It is closely related to the actual operating conditions, the
type of impurities contained in the raw water, the concentration, the
thickness of the exchange resin layer, the influent pH, temperature, flow
rate, resin regeneration degree, and other operating conditions.

Effect of Ion Exchange Resin

1. Quantitative reaction with the same mass as other chemical reactions.
2. It is a reversible reaction that follows the law of mass action.
3. The exchanger is selective, and the exchanged ions on the exchanger
are first exchanged with the exchanged ions.
4. The ion exchanger is applied to wastewater treatment, and the
material can be recovered. For example, the copper-containing
wastewater is first exchanged with H-type cation resin, and the cation
Cu2+ in the wastewater is exchanged.
