Part 1 (50 min)

C. Reproductive System Card Activity: (25 minutes) (See attachments)

D. Formative Assessment: Choose a Ticket out the door or concept maps

Ticket out the door:

o Trace the path of sperm through the male reproductive system. Students can draw the pathway that sperm
travel on paper, or Students can write a story of how sperm moves from the testes to Epididymis, vas deferens, urethra
and describe what secretions are added as they travel.

o List three differences between an embryo and a fetus.

Teachers can demonstrate with Section 1 (Male and Female Reproductive Anatomy) and have the students complete
Section 3(Fetal Development) to meet objectives.

Part II (1 hr 30 min)

(Chapter 3-5 or last 20 minutes) introduction the developmental stages. Finish worksheet.
Essential Questions:

What changes will occur in a female if an egg is not fertilized after ovulation?

What major changes occur in the first eight weeks of development in a human?

What is the difference between a fetus and an embryo?

B. Developmental Timeline Activity: (70 min) Group Activity (groups of 3)

1. Each student chooses a trimester of pregnancy to research. They must find three major events that

happen to the embryo/fetus to record on the timeline. The students can draw or write down the events.

2. The students work together designing the timeline.

3. Students create a rubric to grade the projects. This can be done by handing out sticky notes to the

groups and have them write down what an “excellent”/ rating of 4 project would look like.

The students stick their ideas on the board which has a template drawn on it. Discuss the

good points and weak points. Discuss what categories could be listed from their

suggestions. You can continue with the next level of work “Great”/rating of 3.
