Merger and Acquisition


An acquisition is a corporate action in which a company buys most, if not all, of another firm's
ownership stakes to assume control of it. An acquisition occurs when a buying company obtains
more than 50% ownership in a target company.
On the other hand, a merger is a deal to unite two existing companies into one new company.

Examples of merger in Pakistan


Merger between METRO Cash & Carry Pakistan and Makro-Habib Pakistan. The merged entity
will now be known as METRO-Habib Cash & Carry (Private) Limited.
The Johnson & Phillips group have entered into a "Scheme of Arrangement" for merger into
Johnson & Phillips (Pakistan) Limited.
The Royal Bank of Scotland Limited (RBS) merged into Faysal Bank Limited (FABL).
Atlas Bank Limited (ATBL) merged into Summit Bank Limited (SMBL).
Mobilink and Warid are merging into one brand, that will be called Jazz.

Acquisition of shares of M/s. Wazeer Ali Industries Limited by M/s. Dalda Foods (Pvt) Limited.
Acquisition of majority shares of Union Bank Limited by Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan)
Limited.
Acquisition of 10% shares of M/s.Saif Power Limited by M/s. Habib Bank Limited.
Acquisition of shares of Meezan Bank Limited by M/s Noor Financial Investment Company.
Acquisition of shares of M/s. MCB Bank Limited by M/s. Malayan Banking Berhad.
