San Felipe Castle

Built in stone between 1536 and 1657 in the city of Cartagena has been seen
in the middle of the action in at least two major battles. Today, a well-
preserved historic monument on the top of the San Lazaro hill and from its
strategic position, offers breathtaking views of the city and the Caribbean Sea.
It was built by the Spaniards to protect their settlement in the colonial era with
a triangular shape, eight cannons and led by about 20 soldiers.

The fortification of the castles consists of a series of walls, wide at its base
and narrowed at the top of the parapet. A combination of batteries and
