Six positive displacement air scour blowers are installed as
follows
Plant 1&2 Phase 1: Three Blowers (2 x duty & 1 x standby)
Plant 3&4 Phase 2: Three Blowers (2 x duty & 1 x standby)
Overview
Overview
One of the blowers is designated as duty for the 1st stage
filters, another dedicated to 2nd stage filters and the third
designated as a common standby to both stages.
Actuated valves, complete with open/closed limit
switches, are used to direct flow from the standby blower
to either stream if required.
Overview
The blowers are driven by fixed speed motors and are
mounted on individual skids each including a local control
panel.
The local control panels enable each blower to be
operated locally by interfacing directly with the MCC and
PCS once permission has been given for local manual
operation by the PCS.
Controls are included on the local control panel to enable
the operator to manipulate actuated valves in order to
start and stop the blower, locally. The local control panel
also includes an emergency stop button to immediately
cease blower operation should the operator require.
Overview
Each blower is installed within an acoustic enclosure to
attenuate noise emissions. The acoustic enclosure is
ventilated by a dedicated motorised fan which runs
whenever the blower is called to operate.
The starters for both the air scour blower motor and the
acoustic enclosure ventilation fan are installed in the main
MCC.
Overview
The local controls, on the local control panel operate the
blower via the PCS.
The enclosure is fitted with a temperature switch to
advise of high internal temperature in the event of
ventilation fan failure.
The temperature switch is cabled to the local control
panel.
Overview
In order to prevent surge conditions being created during
start‐up and shutdown the discharge from each blower is
connected to a common blow‐off line. The blow‐off line
includes a silencer to attenuate any noise generated by
venting air during start‐up and shutdown.
The silencer is Capable of accepting the air flow rate from
2 operating blowers.
Overview
The intake to each blower is fitted with an air filter to
prevent solids entering the machine internals.
A differential pressure indicating switch is installed
between the filter and the blower to advise the operator
when filter maintenance is required.
The instrument is also cabled to the local control panel.
The suction pipework for each blower is also fitted with a
intake silencer, temperature transmitter and a pressure
indicator.
Overview
The discharge pipework of each blower includes a
pressure transmitter and a temperature transmitter. The
temperature transmitter is used in conjunction with the
Suction temperature transmitter to monitor the
differential temperature across the blower.
The pressure and temperature transmitters are cabled to a
local terminal box and then directly to the PCS rather than
to the local control panel as these instruments require a
foundation field‐bus connection.
A safety pressure relief valve is fitted to the discharge of
each blower.
