Task 2:

Many parts of the world have poor supplies of fresh water. What could be done to
reduce this problem?

It is true that there is a serious clean water shortage in many places around the globe. I
believe that some solutions should be implemented to tackle this issue.

To begin with, there are numerous reasons why fresh water resources are being
depleted. One major reason is that it is estimated that only 3% of water in the world is
fresh water, which is suitable for basic necessities of human life. At the same time, the
population is exploded in some countries, as a result, there is a lack of clean water
available for consumption. The residents in these water scare areas have to use
substandard water to sustain, which can lead to serious diseases such as dysentery or
cholera. Another reason is that some factories carry out illegal acts leading to
contaminate drinking water. Take Vedan company for example, it discharged harmful
substances into river in Viet Nam.

I believe that urgent activities must be done to reduce this problem. Firstly, the
government should have heavy fines on the dumping chemical wastes into the
environment and force these factories to install the water treatment system in their
production processes. Secondly, people should be educated to raise the awareness of
protecting the nature, starting with using water-saving appliances. Finally, more
advances in technologies should be applied to turn dirty water into fresh water for
consumption.

In conclusion, if present trend continues, there will be an increasingly shortage of

clean water in many parts of the world. I argue that some solutions should be
introduced to solve the problem.
