WEEKLY JOURNALS

This is where you think about your FMP learning journey and development.
Don’t simply describe what you did - consider what you have learnt and how this has benefitted
your project. What do you need to improve?

THIS IS JUST GUIDANCE THAT YOU NEED TO ADAPT TO YOUR OWN PROJECT. YOU HAVE
CREATED YOUR OWN PRODUCTION SCHEDULES AND YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS SHOULD
REFELCT THAT.

Week Eight – Filming

FILMING

What practical work have you done

this week - and how helpful was your
earlier planning?

I have filmed the start of my production and the middle. The

earlier planning was very helpful as I knew exactly what I was
going to film including all of the angles and I knew what
everyone was going to say. It made my filming a lot more
productive as I could get straight to filming. Moreover it was
really easy to get the filming done as I had a script and
storyboard so I didn’t waste any time thinking of what angles
to use or what the actors need to say, however I changed
some angles and lines as I thought of better ones when I was
at the locations. The location recce helped a lot as well as I
was able to go straight to the location and knew where I
wanted to film everything, I knew what could go wrong and
had solutions for them so I didn’t have to reschedule filming.

How will this be useful to you as This will be useful as I will know exactly what to film and it
your production process continues will make me more organised and help me be more
productive so I can get all my filming done quickly. It will also
help as if something goes wrong I have backups for all the
actors etc. I will also be able to know all of the solutions if
things go wrong at my location and have backup actors and
props if people can’t be in it or a prop breaks, this means it is
very unlikely I will have to reschedule.
What issues did you encounter I encountered some issues whilst filming such as one of my
whilst out filming and how did you actors taking a long time to come, I fixed this by getting
overcome them? Charlie to pick him up. Another issue I had was when it was
thundering and lighting whilst heavily raining so I had to plan
to film on another day as I could film then. I also had one of
my actors Max was ill so I had to plan to film on other days
again.

How suitable do you feel your My locations were okay but I could have got better locations
locations were for your filming? that represented the gang life more. As I chose to film in rural
areas which didn’t match my narrative but it still worked out
as I originally researched that gangs are normally in build-up
urban but I chose to film in rural areas but it didn’t work out
as well as it would have looked a lot better in urban areas,
making my production look a lot better and more interesting.

How have you made use of the I have made use of the technical skills as I learnt lots of
technical skills you have developed angles so it’s not just basic anymore. I also learnt lots of
so far this year? editing techniques which I included in my production as well
such as masking transition, colour grading, parallel editing
and lots more. This helped me improve the overall quality and
made my productions more professional.

Having reviewed your footage, are Yes I am happy with my footage, as the actors have done well
you happy with what you have and I don’t need to reshoot anything.
captured and does anything need
reshooting?

Are you ready to edit? If not, how far Yes I am ready to edit but I still have some research and
behind are you? planning to do.

What work do you need to complete I need to finish some of the research.
