The narrative essay I enjoyed most was “Shooting an Elephant” by Orwell for many

reasons. The reason I enjoyed this narrative piece over the others is that the lesson and the
symbolism are very interesting and pose a new subject that I would not normally discuss. The
theme of the essay is the corruption of imperialism and also making choices that are immoral in
order to preserve one’s image. In order to create an effective narrative essay, it is evident that
you establish the perspective and tone. This is because the perspective of the narrative is the
driving force for creating an interesting writing piece. The tone is also important because it sets
the mood of the essay and creates a feel that is necessary to establish in your piece. I wrote a
narrative essay on my experience leaving to live in the woods for three weeks this past the
summer. The most challenging part about writing this piece was attempting to recall all my
emotions and how I was feeling at that specific moment. I am most proud of my ability to share a
personal story and tell about my experiences in an organized fashion.
