Product: research paper and model

Proposal:
For the environmental science class’ final project, we decided to create a model demonstrating
how various human activities could affect and harm the nutrient cycle. We have chosen four main human
activities, one for each of the members to research on their own. Deep down into the ocean, overfishing.
Deep under the canopy of the forest, deforestation. Up there in the sky, greenhouse gases emission. Next
to our home, overuse of pesticide in the farmland. These are the activities that affect the nutrient cycle
and disrupting our Earth. Together, we will be doing further research on how these topics have been and
will be affecting the nutrient cycle further on. After collecting both group and individual research, we will
be combining them into a research paper. This research will include raw information, diagrams, pictures,
statistics, and sample cases of each activity. Moreover, we believed that the research paper would be more
accessible for the readers to understand and see the big picture of our final project. Aside with the
research, we will be creating a fantastic model which shows how each human activity were all connected,
and how all of them can harm the nutrient cycle. Lastly, we have decided to create a model because it is
easy for others to understand, and more attractive for both students and teachers to come observe.
Among other topics, we have chosen these topics because their contents relate to one another.
Deforestation could lead to an increase of greenhouse gases emission, which could destroy the Earth’s
atmosphere. The overuse of pesticides could toxicate the water through runoff, which the fishing industry
should be aware of. One way or another, these topics are connected to each other, and even more, they are
related to the nutrient cycle. Nutrient cycle causes both advantages and disadvantages to the Earth.
Therefore, we are going to research about these topics to give more information for other people to know
what are these topic, why it is essential, what can destroyed nutrient cycle and how to protect them. We
are going to collect all the data on each topic together and illustrate them through the model. We hope that
by displaying both model and research, others could take away a few things from our project, or even
better, learn more about these actions.
