Professional Development Plan and Goals

Areas of Strength
CEC Initial Preparation Standard: Assessment

Key Element : 4.1 Beginning special education professionals select and use technically sound
formal and informal assessments that minimize bias

Evidence: During my practicum at Sandy Hill Elementary, in Jenison, Michigan, I administered,

assessed, and scored over 100 DIBELS assessments. I conducted initial screening, and
progress monitoring. I administered tests for students in grades kindergarten through 6th grade.
This included phoneme segmentation, nonsense word fluency, reading passage comprehension
and other DIBELS assessments. I feel that this is an area of strength because I have had to
work with interventionists and general education teachers during the process and have grown in
my abilities in to administered a structured assessment.
Areas of Growth:
Goals: Routinely interact with a special education educators in order to continue to grow in
professional development.

CEC Initial Preparation Standard: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

Key Element : 6.4 Beginning special education professionals understand the significance of
lifelong learning and participate in professional activities and learning communities

Rationale: As an emerging educator, I have not had opportunities to engage with learning
communities outside of the college that are focused on special education.

Evidence: The Leaders of Tomorrow cohort I am a part of is focused on how to bring best
practices to general education classrooms. While this will transfer to a special education class, I
plan on asking Andrew Smith if he has suggestions for a special educator community that would
be a good fit for me.
