Celebrate Summer in
The museum isn’t the only thing
do on Main Street. Throughout the
summer, several festivals will take place
along Main Street and in the heart of
Washington. A group of downtown
merchants involved in the Heartbeat
of Washington will host the Celebrate
Washington festival in June. In late
September, the Wine and Brew Fest will
come to downtown. Just off Main Street
will be the site of not only the Catholic
Community of Washington Summer
Social in June but also the Bill Dobson

White River Valley Antique Association Show in
Elnora in September, while the Daviess County
Fair’s annual pedal pull brings out pullers of all
ages. Bottom right, wine and craft beer vendors
adorn Main Street in Washington. This year’s
Wine and Brew Fest is set for Sept. 28.

Center will play host to not only the Irish Roots

picnic in June and also several programs held in
the recently restored Celtic Hall, the former St.
Patrick’s Catholic Church. The picnic features a
train ride for kids, food, prizes, and a look into
genealogy.
The fairgrounds in Elnora will be buzzing
with entertainment for the whole family in June
when the Daviess County Fair takes over. Live
entertainment, food booths, carnival rides, exhibits
and a parade are all part of the festivities. If it’s
animals you are looking for, head to the Daviess
County 4-H Grounds in July for the annual 4-H
Show featuring projects from over 400 Daviess
County 4-H members.
Odon features one of the oldest festivals in the
state — the Old Settlers Festival — in August that
offers food vendors, carnival rides, a parade and
more.
Looking to buy a few animals, maybe a car
or some antiques? Don’t miss Dinky’s auction
on Friday evenings. Located in Daviess County’s
Amish country, Dinky’s features multiple auction
rings each Friday night as well as several special

sales throughout the year. While you’re
in Amish country, check out the annual
quilt auction the first weekend in
September or visit one of several Amish-
style restaurants.
Martin County
Nearby is Martin County where
mid-June you’d be able to partake in
Loogootee’s Summer Festival. Also not
to miss out on this summer are events at
West Boggs Park, which include a kid’s
fishing derby in June and a luau party in
July, not to mention swimming, boating
and camping that is available all summer
long.

are downtown galleries and First Friday
art walks held each month. The Art
Space Gallery, the Open Gallery and the
Northwest Territory Art Guild Gallery
offer a chance to view and purchase
work by accomplished artists with
changing exhibitions each month. On
Friday evenings, the public is invited to
look through the galleries while enjoying
light snacks.
Farmers Market of Historic
Vincennes, located at the Riverfront
Pavilion at Second and Busseron streets,
is a busy each Saturday and Wednesday
June through October. At the market,
one can find produce, crafts, plants, and
other items.
Several Knox County communities
play host to festivals and other events
that celebrate the heritage and lifestyle
of the rural community. Between
Oaktown’s Old Oaken Days and
Wheatland’s Wheatfest, there are plenty
of small-town happenings to attend.
For Fourth of July festivities, the
Happy Birthday America Celebration
will be held in downtown Vincennes

Grouseland are available. The
William Henry Harrison
Mansion was built when he
served as the first governor
of the Indiana territory from
1800-1812. According to
the Grouseland Foundation
website, it is called the
“White House of the West,”
as Grouseland was the first
brick home in the Indiana
territory. Located at 3 W.
Scott St., Grouseland is open
for tours from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. Monday through
Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Grouseland, the mansion built by William Henry Harrison when he served as the first governor of
on Sunday. Admission rates the Indiana territory from 1800-1812. Harrison later became a U.S. President.

The George Rogers Clark Memorial, a national historical park at

styles, and each year brings new trends
and innovations in the industry to meet
customer expectations. The RV Family
Travel Atlas identified four new trends
for 2019 influencing the RV industry.
Back to Basics
Bigger is not always necessarily
better. Some find larger RVs and
trailers intimidating to drive or tow and
the upkeep can be expensive, not to
mention the price of purchase. Like the
tiny homes movement and the smaller
camping trailers of decades past, RV
makers are responding to travelers who
desire something smaller and simpler,
emphasizing quality over quantity. A
range of new models are now coming
onto the market that are under 30 feet
long, but still offer many amenities of a
larger RV.
Towing Communication
So you’ve decided on a new RV,
but you’ll need to tow it. According
to RVFTA, figuring out the right
kind of vehicle to haul your RV can
be confusing and take much of the
fun out of the experience. Thankfully,
communication between truck
manufacturers and RV makers have
increased to make the hitch-tow
capacity equation easier on buyers. In

experience in a trailer-style RV at a
cheaper price. But just because you
don’t have to drive the RV itself doesn’t
mean there aren’t maintenance issues.

For years, the RV industry has been
dominated by wood and tin models.
Fiberglass always offered a budget
alternative, but found only niche
markets. That’s changing. Upscale RV
makers such as Airstream are marketing
fiberglass trailers such as its Nest, which
has been met with consumer praise.
Because manufacturers are investing in a
quality RV built from fiberglass, buyers
have responded to a quality fiberglass
RV that lands between the budget
models and the higher-priced models
