Overview
• In my opinion, Angie Thomas creates a fictional black neighborhood in The Hate U
Give, and Starr is part of the neighborhood. The people, the environment, and the matter
that happened in the book might exist in the real black neighborhood somewhere. The
characters and communities in her writing are fictitious but equally real. Many real black
neighborhood issues are described in the book. The five major problems are violent gang,
racial profiling, family education, school education, and neighbor relationship.
