Explanation:
Blogging creates online interaction with authentic audiences (Roblyer & Doering,
2014). These interactions can be used to help students ‘understand computer
mediated communication’ which is a capability of ‘Communicating with ICT’
(ACARA, n.d.-a).
Critical assessment:
Bromley (2010) describes blogs as “dynamic sites of conversation” (Bromley,
2010, p. 100 as cited in Roblyer & Doering, 2014). Evidently, students are able
to express their ideas and opinions, gain insight into multiple perspectives,
establish connectivity and clarify understandings (Bower, 2016; Hew & Cheung,
2012). Furthermore, blogging enables students to view the progress made in how
their thinking transforms over the course of a unit (Hew & Cheung, 2012). Used
as an ePortfolio, the resource would also be an invaluable tool for assessment
‘for’ and ‘of’ learning. Gregson and Doidge (2018) explain that portfolios provide
a more accurate representation of student understanding, especially EAL/D
students.
