1. Assemble prototype (Cotton fiber sponge, PLA rings, nylon rope, attached to miniature boats) 2. Fill baby pool 1/3 of the way with water; pour 2 cups of dyed vegetable oil into the water 3. Place prototype in water 4. Pull boats around water for 2 minutes 5. Squeeze oil into measuring cup to measure the amount of oil soaked up by the sponge 6. Repeat 3 times Procedure for bacteria: 1. Pour 2 cups of water into disposable aluminum tin 2. Add 4 tbsp of motor oil 3. Add 2 tsp of bacteria clay 4. Measure amount of oil left after 10, 20, and 30 minutes
From these tests, we can determine if our prototype works!
Prototype Testing Results Sponge Tests How much oil was soaked up?
Trial 1: 6 oz of oil (3/4 cup)
Trial 2: 8 oz of oil (1 cup) Trial 3: 7 oz of oil (7/8 cup)
