Introduction
AirMagnet Survey PRO is a powerful and easy-to-use survey tool that provides WLAN
professionals with everything they need to both accurately plan and survey any 802.11
a/b/g/n/ac wireless network.

Special Notes
 When using any of the USB wireless adapters, wireless profiles may need to be re-
created when the adapter is plugged into a different USB port—as profiles are stored
based on the port, not the adapter itself.
 The Cisco Prime NCS/WCS integration feature requires a Cisco “Plus” license.
 The use of 802.11ac adapters are supported under the following operating Systems:
Microsoft® Windows 7 Enterprise/Professional/Ultimate or Microsoft Windows 8
Pro/Enterprise 32 and 64 bit or Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro/Enterprise 64 bit. They are
not supported under Windows XP.
 When using an 802.11ac adapter, some features of AirMagnet Survey are unavailable,
for example, VoFi surveys, roaming control for Active or Active IPERF surveys,
indication of channels being scanned and the Station tab in the Passive Survey window.
 Recommended AP settings when performing AP-on-a-Stick active surveys with
802.11ac Adapters:

custom reports or are importing custom reports from earlier versions, you will need to
edit the custom reports before running them. If you run the report before editing, the
error ‘An invalid argument was encountered’ will occur and you will need to exit and
re-launch AirMagnet Survey. To edit a custom report:
o Click the Reports tab.
o Right-click the custom report and select Edit. This opens the Editing Report
Template dialog.
o Select the General Information tab and click Translation. This opens the Report
Translation dialog.

Supported Wi-Fi Adapters

An AirMagnet-supported Wi-Fi adapter is required in order to operate the AirMagnet
Survey/Planner software. For a complete, up-to-date listing of AirMagnet-supported wireless
adapters, visit http://www.flukenetworks.com/products/airmagnet-survey.
When installing Intel® and USB adapters, it is important that users uncheck the option to
install the adapter’s client utility in addition to the driver software.
Recommended drivers for certain 3rd party vendor adapters are available at
https://airmagnet.flukenetworks.com/my_airmagnet/public/documents/ (link accessible
after logging into a valid MyAirMagnet account).
The listing of AirMagnet supported wireless adapters does not apply to Fluke Networks OptiView XG.
The platform has two 3x3 802.11n internal WiFi adapters and a single internal spectrum RF adapter
used to operate AirMagnet WiFi Analyzer software.
Wi-Fi Adapter Guidance
AirMagnet Survey/Planner requires a supported WiFi adapter along with a supported driver
be operating on the machine running the application in order to capture WiFi data.
AirMagnet mobile products categorizes supported WiFi adapters into three types: preferred
adapters, limited support adapters and standard adapters.
Preferred Adapters: These adapters have been tested by AirMagnet and are recommended for
use with AirMagnet products. Drivers have been customized for extended feature support.
Limited Support Adapters: These adapters have been known to work with AirMagnet
products, however, they have not been extensively tested. Fluke Networks recommends using
Preferred Adapters with AirMagnet products.

Release Notes
SVY-v8.7 P4-35819-RLN-01-06/2015
Standard Adapters: These adapters have been comprehensibly tested by AirMagnet and are
recommended for use with AirMagnet Survey PRO for 802.11ac surveys. Drivers have not
been customized and provide limited feature support.
Standard Adapter Limitations include:
1. No ability to scan specific channels; all channels are scanned. Under File>Configure there is
no scan tab and no 802.11 tab.
2. No noise and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measurements.
3. Measured PHY data rates in the uplink and downlink directions are not separated. A single
PHY data rate for the connection is reported.
4. No packet retries measurements on active and iperf surveys.
5. Iperf throughput performance may vary according to standard adapter model.
6. Standard adapters may be limited in the wireless channels that they scan. A standard
adapter may only scan channels that are approved for wireless use in a specific country,
and may not scan some channels that are assigned as Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS)
channels.
7. Only one 802.11ac adapter can be used when utilizing multiple adapters. See “Utilizing
Multiple Adapters” in the AirMagnet Survey User Guide.
8. No roaming control for active and iperf surveys
9. Only by SSID (not by AP) are available for active and iperf surveys due to an inability to
disable roaming on the adapter.
802.11ac Supported Adapters
 Netgear® A6200 WiFi USB Adapter – 802.11ac Dual Band; Netgear A6210 Wi-Fi USB
Adapter.
Note: When using the Netgear A6200 on Windows 8.1 operating system, download the latest
recommended driver from: http://support.netgear.com/product/A6200. This is the Win 8.1 beta driver
with DFS channels support for Europe listed on Netgear’s web site
 D-Link® DWA-182VA1 Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB Adapter.
 Buffalo WI-U2-866D AirStation™ AC866 Dual Band Wireless USB Adapter (for use in
Japan only)
 Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260; Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 internal adapter.
Note: If a supported 802.11ac adapter is selected at application launch, only those features that support
802.11ac will be available for use.

Bug Fixes
1. When a survey is run, the site plan .spi file in the project directory has an empty note
appended to the note field. Eventually, this string exceeds the length allowed when
reading the file and may cause the application to crash. (DE11907, DE11273)

2. When deleting a filtered or merged data file while it is open, the application may crash
(DE10432)
3. Deleting an AP placed on a floor plan in Survey View may cause the application to crash
(DE11725)
4. Intermittent crashes when refreshing heatmaps in Multi Floor Planner (DE11477)

Known Issues
This section documents some known issues with AirMagnet Survey.
1. Cisco Prime NCS/WCS AirMagnet planner export: A shift in the border rendering may
occur. The work around is as follows: After importing the project into Cisco Prime
NCS/WCS, select the building, click the floor plan, select “Map Editor,” maximize the
browser, click "click here." (DE2262)
2. Clicking “Yes” within Recalibrate prompt may not produce recalibrate push pins. The
work around is to try again using the measure tool. (DE2990)
3. Simulated noise level is not saved to the Sim- data file. (DE2870)
4. When using Multi Floor Planner, in an exported Building level report PDF, the blue,
purple, green color legends under 2D floor view may get replaced with a blurry image.
(DE3623)
5. With a virtual survey loaded, AirWISE may indicate the throughput threshold option as
“NA” when it should be “Available.” (DE3522)
6. When running Windows 7 64-bit, the RF Spectrum Report may show all spectrum data
points, not just those marked to be included in the report. (DE3390)
7. When using Multi Floor Planner, there may be an incorrect walls/areas offset after
recalibration if using a Visio image for the floor plan image. (DE3170)
8. When using Multi Floor Planner with imported Visio images, some floors may be
blackened out. (DE7879)
9. When creating a Planner project, if you create a wall that has multiple segments and then
change one or more segments to a different wall type, the change may not be saved.
(DE3040)
10. When using Multi Floor Planner, the user is not prompted to close and restart Multi Floor
Planner after making any changes to Display Performance, Sampling Density or Data
Processing. After making any of these changes, close and restart Multi Floor Planner.
(DE3778)
11. 802.11ac Spatial Stream: When spatial stream values changes during the survey, the new
values are not reflected in Bubble Help. (DE5540)
12. Performing iperf surveys in the 2.4GHz band for 802.11g/n using the Intel 7260 Wi-Fi
adapter may result in the loss of the downlink and “connection reset by peer” messages.
(DE5886)

Release Notes
SVY-v8.7 P4-35819-RLN-01-06/2015
13. In Sensor Deployment Mode, the Reset/Redo icon only Resets (Does not Redo). (DE7062)
14. If you create two plans in Planner: If a heatmap is generated for the first plan and then that
plan is deleted, the heatmap for the deleted plan may be shown on the remaining
undeleted plan. If this happens, simply hit Refresh. (DE7098)
15. In a signal heatmap, interference values listed in the pop-up bubble help may shows as 0. If
this happens, change to the interference heatmap, then change back to the signal heatmap
and the correct values will appear.
16. If you change the color legend scheme for Predictive PHY Data Rate, the scheme for other
heatmaps may also change. If this happens, navigate to another heatmap and return.
17. If APs are deleted in Throughput Simulator, user may see the pop-up ‘Please make sure
each AP is associated with at least one STA’ when selecting the Run option even though the
AP is associated with a STA. The workaround is to close and re-open Throughput
Simulator. (DE9623)
18. When using Multi Floor Planner, it may stop working while resizing the alignment
window. This may be due to the NVIDIA video driver. A possible workaround is to roll
back the NVIDIA video driver to version 6.14.11.5685. (DE3619)
