UNIT 1: WHAT COLOUR IS IT?

LESSON 1

I. OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, s.s will have:
- learnt five basic colous.
- improved confidence by songs and activities.

II. TIME: 45 minutes – 1 hour.

TIMING
Warm-up Hello song and Freeze
(5’) - T plays the Hello song (track 1) to introduce the
lesson, encourages s.s to sing along. jump, fly, run, walk, clap.
- T introduces the game – Freeze:
+ T teaches some basic actions: jump, fly, run,
walk, clap.
+ S.s will mime the action as T says the word.
+ If T says “freeze”, s.s have to stop all the action.
+ The slower student has to sit down.
+ T continues the game until there is just one
student left.
- T introduces the topic of the lesson.

New - T hides flashcards behind the back. Red, green, blue, black, white.
words - T shows them one at a time and says the name of
each colour.
- T does it again and s.s repeat.
- T lets each student repeat.

Listen, - T lets s.s open their books.


point and - T plays the audio.
repeat - T points to each picture in time with the audio.
S.s point pictures in their books.
- T plays the audio again and s.s repeat.
- T holds up the flashcards again and s.s repeat.
Listen - T plays the audio and s.s listen to the chant. Red, green
and chant - T plays the audio the second time but pauses on (clap your hands three times)
each line for s.s to repeat. Blue, red
- T plays it again and s.s sing along (stamp your feet three times)
Black, white
(tap the desk three times)
Point and - T shows s.s the picture, points to each charater
say. Stick and says their name.
the - T asks s.s to repeat.
sticker - T points to the coloured bricks in turn and says
the colours.
- T lets s.s repeat the colours.
- T says “Let’s stick the sticker” , pulls a sticker
out as a model for s.s and sticks into the picture.
- Then s.s copy and finish the picture.
- T goes around and checks.
Dictation - T writes today’s vocabulary on the board. Red, green, blue, black, white.
- T says the words and lets s.s repeat.
- T invites some s.s to go on the board and repeat
each word 2 times.
- T lets s.s open their notebook and copy each
word 10 times.
- T checks s.s works.

TIMING
Warm-up Tap the flashcards:
(5’) - T plays the Hello song (track 1) to introduce the Red, green, blue, black, white.

Game: Tap the flashcards
- T shows the flashcards on the table.
- T says a word – s.s will tap that word.
- S.s will have one point for each correct tap.
Lead-in - T shows the flashcards each time.
- T asks s.s “What colour is it?” then T answers it
slowly “It’s red.”
- T does it one more time and calls some students
to answer.

Listen and - T plays the recording once. What colour is it?


repeat - T plays the recording again with pause for s.s to It’s red.
repeat.
- T shows the flashcard based on the recording.

Listen and - T lets s.s open their books.


sing - T guide the s.s to the song part.
- T plays the audio and s.s listen to the song.
- T plays the audio the second time but pauses on
each line for s.s to repeat.
-T plays it again and s.s sing along. (tell s.s to
point to the colour when it’s sung)
Trace the - T holds up the book and shows the task.
lines and - T asks s.s “ What colour is it?”.
say - T lets s.s trace the lines by their fingers to the
bottom of the page and answer again. (It’s red).
- T lets s.s to trace by their pencils.
- T goes over the class and checks.
Dictation - T writes the grammar on the board.
- T says the question “What colour is it?” and lets
s.s repeat.
- T invites some s.s to go on the board and repeat
each word 2 times.
- T lets s.s open their notebook and copy each
word 10 times.
- T checks s.s works.

Homework - T lets s.s to write their homework down:


+ Review the vocabulary: red, green, blue, black,
white, What colour is it?.
+ Finish the dictation.
