It is difficult to calculate the failure rate (number of fail trap per year) for steam

trap in Badak LNG Plant since the data available is four yearly failures. However,
the faulty rate could be approached refers to the several published data. This
faulty rate is important in calculating the projected cost on steam trap inspection
and repair program. Traps fail randomly. Accelerating the survey does not reduce
the failure, but only to find and repair them faster to save the cost of steam loss [x].
Average-quality traps may have just a 4-year life expectancy (which implies a 25%
failure rate), while higher-quality steam traps may have an 8-year life expectancy
(12.5% average failure rate) [x]. In Badak LNG Plant, the failures of traps in 4 yearly
are shown by Table xxx. Based on that data, the failure rate could be assumed to
be xxx in average. This failure rate is the utilized to analysis the cost benefit
analysis of steam trap management.

Improvement:
1. From yearly recorded inspection result, adjustment on failure rate.
2. Number of minimum and maximum part or unit spare.
3.

- Four year survey interval, which is considered to long when compared to

several manufacturer guidance or world wide best practice.
- There is a potency to reduce the monetary loss due to steam leak from
traps.
- No basis data on steam trap sizing is recorded in Badak LNG Plant.
- Several procurement activities are still using sole source mechanism.
- The line number of steam traps shall be reviewed and minimize.
