As a part of 8th semester of the Degree course in Hotel Management, the students have
undergone Job Training of 20 weeks, which is a true exposure to the actual functioning of the
industry. This is the exact time to get acquainted with the facts of the industry and decide the
area of professional interest.
I express my profound gratitude for having selected me for the Job Training Program. I would
like to convey my thanks to the Training Department for having coordinated our training well.
This report is a brief of the departments I was exposed to during my training period. This is a
collection and compilation of material of educative value gathered from the hotel.

INTRODUCTION TO HOTEL INDUSTRY
Hotel Industry is the way to provide the travelers from all over the world shelters, food and
home like services. Return of this the hotels get lots of foreign and Indian customers and also
good amount of money.
According to the British laws a hotel is a place where a “bonafied” traveler can
receive food and shelter provided he is in a position to for it and is in a fit
condition to receive.
Hotels have a very long history, but not as we know today, way back in the 6 th
century BC when the first inn in and around the city of London began to develop.
The first catered to travelers and provided them with a mere roof to stay under. Until the
industrial revolution in England, which brought about new ideas and progress in the
business at inn keeping? The invention of the steam engine made traveling even
more prominent.
This lead to the actual development of the hotel industry as we know it today. Hotel today
not only cater to the basic needs of the guest like food and shelter provide much
more than that, like personalized services etc .Hotels today are a “Home away from home”.
HOTEL It is a commercial establishment providing lodging, meals, and otherservices.In
general, to be called a hotel, an establishment must have a minimum of six letting bedrooms,
at least three of which must have attached private bathroom facilities. Although hotels are
classified into 'Star' categories (1-Star to 5-Star), there is no standard method of assigning
these ratings, and compliance with customary requirements is voluntary.

MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL HISTORY
Marriott was founded by John Willard Marriott in 1927 when he and his wife, Alice Sheets
Marriott, opened a root beer stand in Washington, D.C.As a Latter-day Saint missionary in the
humid summers in Washington, D.C., Marriott was convinced that what residents of the city
needed was a place to get a cool drink. The Marriotts went public in 1953 as Hot Shoppes, Inc.
The company opened its first later expanded their enterprise into a chain of Hot
Shoppes restaurants and the company hotel, the Twin Bridges Marriott Motor Hotel,
in Arlington, Virginia, in 1957. Their second hotel, the Key Bridge Marriott in
the Rosslyn neighborhood of the same city, is Marriott International’s longest continuously
operating hotel, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009.Their son, J. W. (Bill) Marriott, Jr.,
led the company to spectacular worldwide growth during his more than 50-year career. In March
2012, at age 80, he turned the CEO responsibilities over to Arne Sorenson, while he assumed the
title of Executive Chairman.
Hot Shoppes, Inc. was renamed the Marriott Corporation in 1967.
The company opened two theme parks in 1976.One Marriott's Great America was located
outside Chicago, the other Marriott's Great America was located outside San Francisco. Marriott
sold both properties in 1984.

SECTIONS OF HOUSEKEEPING
LINEN ROOM
It is one of the most important sections in the HK. All the departments depend on the linen
room to get their linen and uniforms laundered.
Linen Room supervisor heads the linen room. The soaked linen is collected & counted in front
of House Man for the right count. The damaged and badly stained linen is kept aside. Warning
is issued to the person responsible. The description of soiled item, soiled count, clean linen
received, balances and other remark is entered in linen exchange slip. Clean linen is given in
exchange against the number of soiled linen.
UNIFORM ROOM
The uniform room supervisor reports directly to the executive HK. The uniform room is a place
allotted to store all the uniforms of the staff of the hotel. Each staff is given a particular code that
holds good for their uniform.
Uniform room has 2 tailors to attend to stitching & mending of the uniform. If the uniform is in
bad shape, uniform attendant informs supervisor who brings it to the notice of executive HK.
Warning is issued to the person responsible. Also a complaint book is kept in the uniform room
where in a staff complaint may be registered.
LAUNDRY
The importance of laundry is inevitable as it processes soiled linen and uniform and supplies
clean linen and uniform on daily basis thus playing an important role in maintaining high
standards.

Valet Service
One of the primary roles of the laundry is to provide valet service to houseguest. Valet is one
who be there on call to the guest, fetches soiled clothes from guest room and returns them with
whatever service the guest demands.
This service needs the guest to fill up the dry cleaning list with his room no. and any other
special instruction. The valet inspects each soiled garments for tears or stains so the guest
doesn't hold the laundry responsible.
After the necessary service, valet gives the clean cloth to the guest. Charges are posted from
the laundry to the cashier.
PUBLIC AREAS
Public area comprises of main lobby, clock room restaurants, swimming pool, executive
officeThere are two supervisors who are in-charge of public areas for the morning and evening
shift. In the morning there are 15 horsemen working under the supervisor. The horsemen are
assigned with the cleaning of particular areas. The cleaning of the restaurant is done before mis-
en-place starts.The cleaning of the public areas has to be well planned. It should be cleaned
when there's no rush causing minimum inconvenience to the guest.The spotting of the carpets is
done once in a month. The lobby should be cleaned during nights as it would not cause
inconvenience to the guest. The spring cleaning and scrubbing of the public areas in done by the
night shift staff. The carpets and upholstery of the restaurants is done everyday by the morning
shift staff.

JW MARRIOTT JAIPUR focuses on delivering a healthy ‘triple bottom line’ i.e. Planet, People
and Profit through its sustainability initiatives.
Planet: Current efforts include energy efficiency and conservation; water efficiency and
conservation; use of CNG instead of LPG; use of green building material; planting of trees and
shrubs on hotel premises; building hotels in accordance with Universal Design concepts - for
greater access for differently abled people and building our hotels to Leadership in Energy and
Design (LEED) Gold Standards.
In the medium term to long term, it aims to focus on wind power; agro power i.e. burn
agricultural waste; recycled water for AC cooling tower; heat pump for energy conservation;
solar photo voltaic (PV) system for lighting; extensive use of LED light fittings (post cost
reduction); geo thermal energy.

LED lighting and CFL Lighting: both consume far less energy than traditional lighting
Key Tag Energy Saver System: conserves energy in unoccupied rooms
Natural/day lighting: reduces power consumption dramatically
Double Glazed Vacuum Sealed Windows: conserves energy and reduces noise
Auto Time Management (for lighting, air-conditioning and ventilation fans) through
timers and motion sensors: helps conserve energy

motors for water supply: ensures constant pressure and reduces load on pumps
LT Voltage Stabilizer: is energy saving and prevents damage to equipment due to sudden
power fluctuations
Thermal Insulation: increases room comfort and conserves energy
Use of BEE certified equipment e.g. air-conditioner, refrigerator, fans, etc.: reduces
energy consumption
Solar Panel for hot water: alternative, renewable energy
Water Conservation
Sewage Treatment Plant (STP): recycles water used across the hotel and this recycled
water is used in the garden and flush systems
Aerators/Flow Restrictors including Duel Flush System: maintains water force and yet
reduces outflow, hence saving water
Rain Water Harvesting: protects and replenishes the ground water table
Guest engagement program – water saving poster placed in all rooms that quantifies the
saving of water each guest can do by not getting their linen changed daily – encourages
them to do their small bit to save precious water when they are travelling.
Waste Management
Double Glazed Vacuum Sealed Windows: reduces external noise level below 50 decibels
Environmental Seals: prevents entry of noise and smoke (in case of fire) into the room
Noiseless Generators: acoustically insulated, the sound level is dampened to a minimal
level
Operational Practices
At JW MARRIOTT JAIPUR, safety and security of our guests, employees and assets is
paramount to us. Our security department has invested in updated technology and
equipment for all our recent hotels and evaluates ways to upgrade security measures in
our older hotels.
Some key security arrangements in our recent hotels include crash bollards and boom
barriers at each entrance, under-vehicle surveillance systems, baggage x-ray scanners,
CCTV coverage of all public areas, intruder alarm system and panic buttons at key
locations such as the main gate, reception and swimming pool areas.

CONCLUSION
When I first began my Job Training but went by ever so quickly and have left me craving for
much more. I would have to say that it is an absolutely fabulous part of the curriculum and
perhaps will remain the most memorable one.
Needless to say that this experience was a highly enriching and educative one as I went on from
one department to another and met and got the opportunity to train under several highly
respected senior professionals. I learnt that every individual is different and that every one has
something unique to offer. I learnt that every job has its nuances and its value and that no job is
superior to the other. I learnt that on needs to constantly improve and improvise. I learnt that this
is just the beginning of a long road ahead full of challenges. But I know that I will be able to run
along because I have my foundations firmly built in. It is here that I got the opportunity to
continuously introspect and improve as a budding professional and as a human being. I will
always look back at the time spent here with fondness and with pride.
I cannot but thank all the people who have helped me in several different ways that will go a
long way in facilitating the commencement of a wonderful journey.
