I wish to apply to the Master degree study in Business Analytics program (with

specialization in management science) at University College London for September 2019 intake.
University College London is one of the best Universities in the world : ranked at 10th in QS
Ranking 2019. Considering about Business Analytics program (with specialization in
management science) in University College London will provide comprehensive knowledge,
conceptual skill and some practical skill with simulation. Due to no doubt that the United
Kingdom, mainly University College London has well respected education quality with world-
class standardization of teaching and there is also strong partnership between University and
industries, it is clear that joining this program, will also give me a lot of advantages after the
study. For example, the credibility of University College London will help me to get better job
when I would like to get some experiences in international and high pressure working
atmosphere and also in next step, to realize my ultimate career goal, which are hold an important
position with global scale company or become an entrepreneur in engineering and technology
fields, who opens new employment for other people. Another reason why I am interested in
studying at University College London, because by being a part of University College London
will also give me the opportunity to feel the international exposure, build myself into globally
minded person in a culturally diverse environment and also master my English skills, which will
helpful to face high and strict competition in today’s globally workforce.

Regarding to my interests, I am interested in engineering, technology and business,

especially when I have to analyze the data to make some developments for the future or to make
a decision. To fulfill my interests, I have learned engineering in my bachelor degree and I have
also known what I should consider when I have to make a decision from engineering aspects in
most of cases. However, I have not known what I should looking for from business aspects, in
cases I have to make a decision. Therefore, I decide to study Business Analytics, because I
would like to understand what I have to consider from business aspects, in cases I have to make a
decision and also how to use data to support the decision-making. Moreover, the subjects that are
provided, which are business strategy and analytics, marketing analytics, operation analytics and
also predictive analytics, also motivate me to study Business Analytics (with specialization in
management science) at University College London, because by learning all of those subjects, I
will be able to improve business performance which will also drive the company to reach success
in its business lines. As a result, by studying business analytics, I hope that I can understand what
are the aspects of businesses perspectives that I should consider, in case the decision should be
made. Then, by understanding both of engineering and business knowledge, I will be able to
make a decision by not only considering in either of engineering aspect or business aspect, which
is happening in most of companies in Indonesia, but also both of them.

Regarding about myself, I earned my bachelor degree from University of Indonesia in

2016 after graduating from mechanical engineering with specialization in energy audits and
production management. My final project, in general, was about energy efficiency management
which is one of the important parts that has a lot of influences in engineering business around the
world. Because most of the engineering business, especially manufacturing and production,
consumes much energy in their processes. Eventhough most of the contains in my final project
was related to the engineering, but there were some skill that I believe it will help me in my
business analytics study, such as analysis skill that I used to find the problems in the processes
and to analyze the previous data. Then, there was also computational statistic skill that I used to
forecast the secondary data. Moreover, in my final project, I also learned how to plan the suitable
strategies to overcome the problems based on the existing conditions that represented from the
data. I have also made a journal based on a part of my final project and I have got an acceptance
letter to publish it in one of the International conference indexed in scopus (International
Meeting on Advances in Thermofluids 2018) in November 2018. Beside academic activities, I
had some organizational activity experiences that gave me a chance to enhance my leadership,
communication and also organizational skill.

One of my working experiences which makes me sure that I have to take business
analytics as my master degree was my last position as business development in a logistic
company. Taking responsibilities as business development, I often needed to analyze the market
data and tried to make some strategies that suit to deal with the market conditions more than just
consider to the technical aspect. From that position, I realize that having a technical knowledge is
not enough to become a successful business person. Besides of that, that position also gave me a
chance to improve my critical thinking and problem-solving skill. Additionally, it also gave me a
chance to improve my communication skill by interacting with many type of people whether
when I tried to promote our services to the prospective clients or had a meeting with the existing
clients. From all of my activities, I learned that having a good technical knowledge is not quite
enough, because I also need non-technical knowledge such as management or business skill to
optimize the business.
