INJECTION MOLD

Runners: -
o Runners are channels machined on the mold plate – they
connect Sprue with Gate (and the cavity).
o Overly thick runners can increase the cycle time (cooling) &
create raw-material wastage.

o On the other hand, thin runners can result in pressure loss &
other molding issues.

o An optimum “runner design” requires balance between ease of

filling, mold design and runner volume.

o Design considerations are – shape, size of the runner & the

runner layout.

o To remove machine marks > proper polish > easy runner

ejection & less runner freezing.

o Optimum runner dia. depends on part thick., part volume, flow

length, material viscosity.

runners are good.
