CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter presented the summary of the study, finding of the study

based from the data gathered, conclusion based on the findings and

recommendation.

Summary

The study aimed to determine the internet addiction and academic

performance of first year and second year criminology student at Polytechnic

College of Davao del Sur, Inc, School Year 2018-2019. What is the profile of

the respondents in terms of gender; and year level? What is the level of

internet addiction of the respondent, when analyzed in terms of gender and

year level? What is the academic performance of the respondents? Is there

a significant relationship between internet addiction & Academic

performance?. We use internet addiction assessment tools survey

questionnaire by random sampling method for selecting respondent

throughout criminology students.

The study focused on the significant relation of internet addiction

between academic performance of first year and second year criminology

student at Polytechnic College of Davao del Sur, Inc, School Year 2018-

2019.
Findings of the Study

The following are the results of the data gathered:

A total number of respondent is 100 from first year and second year

criminology student are enrolled of which 25 male and 25 female first year,

25 male and 25 female second year criminology student. The internet

addiction of the respondent by gender male obtained a weighted means of

3.03 and female 3.01. An overall average weighted means of 3.02. The

internet addiction of the respondent by year level first year obtained an

weighted means of 2.96 and second year 3.14. An overall average weighted

means of 3.05; based on the data we gathered the level of internet addiction

in terms of gender had slight difference between male and female but same

interpretation as sometimes. On the level of internet addiction in terms of

year level the first year is less addicted than second year with a high number

of weighted means 3.14 but same interpreted as sometimes.

The result of the study shows that there is significant relationship between

internet addiction and academic performance of first year and second year

criminology student by male and female respondent.


Conclusion

Based on the finding of the study, internet addiction sometimes

influenced the academic performance of first year and second year

criminology student whereas internet may use on studies, school work, and

other purpose.

Recommendation

Based on the findings of the study, the following are hereby

recommended. Student assessment on professional subjects to enhance the

academic performance of criminology student. Read books every day even 2

hours a day to enhance reading skills, comprehension, and earn more

knowledge by reading. Teachers teaching strategies are applied by teaching

personnel to encourage the student for higher academic performance.

Training and seminars to be conducted to the first year and second year

student on their field of study to improve their learning, skill and self-

confidence. Similar study is made on other factors that influenced the

academic performance of first year and second year criminology student.

Teacher’s periodically done evaluation like quizzes, exams, projects and tern

paper.
