Analysis Major BIOS manufacturers include:
• American Megatrends Inc. (AMI)
• Phoenix Technologies
• ALi
• Winbond
Abstraction A power-on self-test (POST) for all of the different hardware components
in the system to make sure everything is working properly.
When you turn on your computer, the BIOS does several things. This is
its usual sequence:
1. Check the CMOS Setup for custom settings
2. Load the interrupt handlers and device drivers
3. Initialize registers and power management
4. Perform the power-on self-test (POST)
5. Display system settings
6. Determine which devices are bootable
7. Initiate the bootstrap sequence
To enter the CMOS Setup, you must press a certain key or combination
of keys during the initial startup sequence. Most systems use "Esc,"
"Del," "F1," "F2," "Ctrl-Esc" or "Ctrl-Alt-Esc" to enter setup. There is
usually a line of text at the bottom of the display that tells you "Press
___ to Enter Setup."
Application Group the students into 5 groups. The first group will do the activity first then

Analysis There are several types of motherboards being used today:
 ATX
 BABY AT
 MICRO ATX
 FLEX ATX
 BTX

Abstraction The main printed circuit board in a computer is known as the motherboard.
Other names for this central computer unit are system board, main board, or
printed wired board (PWB). The motherboard is sometimes shortened to Mobo.
Numerous major components, crucial for the functioning of the computer, are
attached to the motherboard. These include the processor, memory, and
expansion slots. The motherboard connects directly or indirectly to every part
of the PC.
Application Group the students into 5 groups. Each group will be provided with a real
motherboard allow them to identify and give the functions of each parts.

3. Discussion: Motherboards: Types, Parts and Function
Activity Using an LCD Projector demonstrate the creation if a USB Bootable device
using Rufus Software.
Analysis USB boot is the process of using a USB storage device to boot or start a
computer’s operating system. It enables computer hardware to use a USB
storage stick to get all essential system booting information and files rather
than the standard/native hard disk or the CD drive. A common use of a
bootable USB flash drive is to use it to boot into Windows. To determine if a
computer is capable of booting to a USB device, access the computer's BIOS
and check the bootable device list. If a USB device is listed, set the USB Flash
Disk to be the first boot device.
Abstraction Rufus is a utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash
drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. It can be
especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation
media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) you need to
work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed.
Application Provide the Students with the Necessary materials like ISO file of windows 7
and have them use the rufus software.

Abstraction When it comes to installing a Windows operating system with a USB flash
drive, we will need to make the USB drive bootable to work and behave like a
Windows installation disc. You can use software applications to perform this
task, but the CMD method to make USB bootable is really cool and easy, and
you do not need to install any additional applications on your PC.

software (programs that do work users are directly interested in) and
system software (which includes operating systems and any program
that supports application software)

can use it to install Windows 7 on any PC.
Abstraction Windows 7 is built on the Vista kernel. To many end users the biggest
changes between Vista and Windows 7 are faster boot times, new user
interfaces and the addition of Internet Explorer 8. The OS is widely
available in three retail editions: Windows 7 Home Premium,
Professional and Ultimate. Starter, OEM and Enterprise editions are
available in some markets.

released October 26, 2012. This iteration contains some of the biggest
changes Microsoft has made to their operating system since Windows
95. It features new programming and technology allowing it to run faster
