Arrangement of Rooms, their

position and purpose


• Drawing room
• Dinning room
• Bed room
• Guest room
• Kitchen
• Bath an W.C
Drawing Room
• this should be well ventilated and lighted with
natural fresh air and sun. this room should be
centrally located in the building. There should
be direct approach to this room from main
entrance.
Dining Room
• This room should be located adjacent to the
drawing room. It is preferred if both these
rooms(i.e. drawing room) remain connected .
• Some times dining and drawing is combined in
one big sized room
• Must be connected to kitchen so that catering
of food is easy
Bed rooms
• Located on side of the building
• At least one side of its wall is externl for good
natural ventilation and light in the room
• A lavatory should remain attached with this
room.


Guest room
• This should be located on one side of the front
verandah.
• It should not have any connection with
drawing room and other rooms.
• Bath and W.C must be closed with this room.
Kitchen
• Must be placed on the back corner of the
house such that smoke of the kitchen may not
spread in the rooms.
• Fitted with working slabs , shelves and
storage cup board, sink and chimney
Bath and W.C.
• May be separated or combined with room.
• Must have one external wall for ventilation.
• There should be at least one separate bath
and W.C. in the house.
Verandah
• Verandah may be 9 to 10ft wide and located
at the front and back of the building.
Garage and Servant's room
• Made in separate block
• Constructed in the back open space.
Corridor
• Covered passage in the building with the help
of which any room can be approached
without disturbing the privacy of other rooms.
Lobby
• It is a hall at the main entrance which remains
connected to other parts of the building
through corridors
Porch or Partico

• It is constructed in the front of the building.


This adds to the elevation of the building.car
may be parked in it
Stair room
• It must be located at such position that it remains
easily approachable from all other parts of the
building.
• Should be well ventilated and lighted.
• The width of the flight should lie between 3.5ft -4.5ft,
depending upon the traffic it has to handle.
• It is preferable to have landing between two flights.
• Free headway in case of stair should be at least 7-7.5ft .
• The relation between riser and tread of a stair should
follow: R=66/T(tread) T and R in inches.
