Thesis Statement

Essential Question:
What was Anne Frank’s relationship with her diary
(Kitty)?

Thesis Statement:
Anne’s relationship with her diary, Kitty, is that they are
best friends because, Anne expresses herself when
they talk, every secret they had was always told and
Anne wrote to Kitty as a reflection of her life within
each page and entry written.

Key Terms 1

● Kitty- When Anne began to write in her diary, she


wrote in it as if she was talking to someone. That
“someone” was her diary named Kitty.

● Nazis- Members of the National Socialist German


Workers' Party that was formed on February 24,
1920.

● Anne in the Annex- Once Hitler rose into power,


Anne and her family hid in a annex behind their
family store.

once Hitler rose to power.

where they also spent 2 years in hiding inside of the
annex.

● Northern Germany Bergen-Belsen(camp) - After


being captured Anne was to taken to a
concentration camp.

Background Information

● The Frank family were a German-born Jewish


family.

● Their family hid from Hitler and the Nazis by hiding


in their family’s annex

● Otto Frank was the only survivor of the family. Otto


recovered Anne’s diary and later published it to
share her story.

● In Anne’s diary, every entry was wrote out to Kitty.

“Anne expresses herself when they talk”

● Anne Frank wrote in her diary that “Paper has more


patience than people.” Anne talked about the things
that she wouldn’t tell anyone. She wrote/talked to
her diary as if Kitty was a real person.

“every secret they had was always told”

● Anne shared a lot of secrets and stories with Kitty


that she would normally not tell anyone else.
Anne wrote “I have an even greater need to get all
kinds of things off my chest.” Anne used her diary
as a way to let out her feelings and share her
secrets and thoughts.

“Anne wrote to Kitty as a reflection of her life within

● In all of Anne’s entries, she writes to “Kitty” which is


her diary. Anne wrote to Kitty about her daily life and
all her thoughts. Anne’s whole dairy is a reflection of
what her day was like everyday.

“Anne wrote to Kitty as a reflection of her life within

● In one of her entries she wrote “J.R. - I could write a


whole book about her. J. is a detestable, sneaky,
stuck-up, two-faced gossip who thinks she’s all
grown up.” Anne wrote about everything. Every
moment, every thought, and every feeling she had.
