Action Research Outline

I. Focus: Research Topic is on Gamification for Professional Development

II. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to determine what prevents teachers from being

able to participate in gamification for professional development. The Research Question

is focused on the perception of a user’s experience. It will help show how to improve the

user-friendliness of the gamification for teacher development. It is necessary to gather

Qualitative data with input, feedback, and feelings of the experience.

III. Research Question: What are perceptions held by teachers that factor as difficulty to

participate in gamification for professional development?

IV. Research Design: The research design is qualitative because the goal is to determine a

consensus on what driving factor causes teachers difficulty in finding time to participate

in personalized professional development. Their responses and feedback will lead to an

accurate solution.

V. Data to be Collected: The types of instruments that will used to determine the outcome

of the research question, will be qualitative data from interviews, discussions, reflections,

and observations.

VI. Measurement Instrument(s): Through the responses and reflections of what is

discussed, I will determine a common theme to the problem.

VII. Focus of Lit Review: The lit review will give an overview of what is gamification and

the benefits it provides to teacher professional development. It will highlight some of the

trends and themes of gamification for learning. The literature review will analyze some

reasons to support the action research question. It will then discuss what was discovered

through the qualitative data. The lit review will close in determining an action plan to
gain more participation of teachers in gamification for professional development, as well

as potential benefits and future weaknesses to consider.
