Okay class our topic this afternoon is about


Chinese Peking Opera. So, what is the traditional
theater art form from China?
The Peking Opera or Beijing Opera
Which means?
It combines music, vocal performance, pantomime,
dance and acrobatics.
Your right, what century become fully developed the
theater? It started in the late 18th century and became fully
developed and recognized by the mid-19th century.
Correct, this the time during the Qing Dynasty
court it became extremely popular and came to be
regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China.
And now, let’s move to the roles and characters.
But first we discuss the role of Sheng, what is it? .
Sheng is the main role in Peking Opera.

This is the actors involved with beautiful women.

beautiful women by virtue of the handsome and

Another is Wusheng, what is it?
It is a martial character for roles involving combat.

Next is the Laosheng, what is it?
It is a dignified older role.

cultivated disposition, and wear sensible costumes.

female in Peking opera. So, what is Dan?
It refers to any female role.

What is Laodan?
An old woman.
What do you call a martial woman?
Wudan
What is the Daomadan?
It is the young female warriors.
How about the Qingyi?
Qingyi are the virtuous and elite women.
And lastly is the Huadan?
Huadan are vivacious and unmarried women.

Jing is a painted face male role who plays either
primary or secondary roles.
This type of role entails a forceful character,
why do you think is this roles.
It means that a Jing actor must have a strong voice
and be able to exaggerate gestures.

It is fierceness, ambition, and cool-headedness.

Uprightness, sophistication, and cool-headedness.

opera is to put beauty into every motion.
