Artist Statement
My name is Celia Dobbs, and I am a sophomore this year. This is the first
painting and drawing class I have taken at Tawas. Last year I was in digital
photography, and I have loved both classes. I really took this because I needed
another class, but I am glad I did. I have learned a lot, and there is so much more
to come.
I usually go by what Mrs. Bayn says to draw or paint, but I love when it is a
place, or anything besides people. I would rather draw people than paint them
love this because you can control how big or little some part of nature is. Also, I
really like to make things my own, and people are people, so you can't really
change them.
It's not so much that a certain thing inspires me, but the surrounding
people do. My table mates are very creative, and I love to learn and grow from
them. If I am lost, they can help me with what it is I need and maybe how to
improve my art. Some of my favorite topics to look at are more of a modern, but

Some tools that I used to create my work are ones I have learned this year.
I use the main focus of the picture to my advantage, and also the rule of thirds.

acrylic paint over anything else. It works really nice and blends well together,
rather than just mixing up to black. My favorite piece of art I have made so far is
my wave painting. This painting shows movement and the colors are beautiful
together.
What makes my art special you ask? Well to me, art is a way of showing
sometimes unorganized, but it works for me. My art is unique because I stay true
to myself rather than trying to copy another artist. I have my own style I think, and
