For the last 50 years, world population multiplied more rapidly than ever before, and more
rapidly than it is projected to grow in the future. In 1950, the world had 2.5 billion people; and
in 2005, the world had 6.5 billion people. By 2050, this number could rise to more than 9
billion.

The nutritional requirements for humans are carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, and

Sustainable agriculture is an act of farming using principles of ecology, the study of

Artisanal and Small-scale mining (ASM) refers to informal mining activities carried out
using low technology or with minimal machinery. It is estimated that more than 100 million
people rely on this sector for income, mainly in developing nations.

Hotter days and more frequent and longer heat waves could increase the number of heat
illnesses and deaths. Changes in temperature, precipitation patterns, and extreme events
could enhance the spread of some diseases.
