2016 Jump Start CompTIA IT Fundamentals Welcome - Billie
Welcome to the CompTIA A+ IT Fundamentals 2016 Jump Start Super Summer Institute training! Please
read this message for some important details.
First off, I’m Scott Jernigan and I’ll be your instructor. I’ve been teaching and writing books about
computers and networks since the 90s and have taught at places as diverse as the United Nations, the
FBI Academy, and community colleges. You can reach me at scottj@totalsem.com.
The class runs July 18-22, 8 am to 5 pm, at the South Louisiana Community College (more details will
follow from the Jump Start staff).
You should have received three documents from the Jump Start staff already:
If you haven’t received these documents, please let me know and I’ll send them to you directly.
We shipped the textbook to your school/parish office yesterday afternoon and you should have access
by Monday at the latest. Additional resources will come your way as mentioned in the “Preparing”
document.
The textbook is CompTIA IT Fundamentals Study Guide, by Quentin Docter. Please don’t let the size or
apparent complexity of the book seem daunting. Docter must have put it together before he had a
chance to take the exam and he added way more content than necessary. Part of this train-the-trainer
Jump Start course is to teach you what you (and your students) need to know for the exam.
Follow up
As part of the prep process for class, we’ll hold regular conference calls/video to discuss the training
materials and IT Fundamentals before class starts. Kathy Yale, our Director of Marketing and Sales, will
contact you with additional information. She’s cc:d on this e-mail.
